Checking the water valve for leakage when the engine is cold.

(THIS ONLY WORKS WHEN THE VEHICLE HAS SET OVERNIGHT.)

1. Set the Mode Switch to "Vent".

2. Set the temperature control to full cold and blower to medium speed.

3. Secure two thermometers. Measure the Fresh Air inlet temperature immediately in front of the AC air inlet with one thermometer and the dash vent air temperature with the other thermometer.

4. Start the engine and set the engine speed to 1500 rpms with throttle stick.

5. Let the engine warm up to normal operating temperature.

6. If the inlet and outlet temperature (dash duct air temperature) difference does not vary significantly as the engine warms the coolant, then the valve can be considered good. If the temperature difference increases significantly, then the valve is leaking coolant through the heater core; replace the valve assembly.

7. After installing the new coolant valve, verify your repair.

I put the ball valve in mine also. I found the valve out of a late 90s Honda worked the best because of the three I tested, only the Honda valve would hold lung air pressure and the others leaked some.
