Welcome to iRV2, you will find a lot of information on this site.

What year an model is your coach? In most instances you will have to remove the steering wheel to get to the signal switch. The steering coluum housing could be one or two pieces, look for some screws along the casting seem. If there aren't any then the housing slides out after the steering wheel, signal switch and ignition lock is removed.

I hope this helps,

Henry.

I don't know what kind of problem you have but here is what happened to me.When I first got my 04 chassis I thought I needed a turn sygnal switch. It turned out that when I used the 4ways for the first time I pulled the button out to turn them off instead of pushing it in again. All I had to do was push it all the way back in again then push it in again to turn them off and after that the turn sygnals worked again. If you have to take it apart on the bottom side there are some deep holes in the plastic where the screws are that hold it together. Mine had torqs head screws but some have phillips head. (good luck)

When I took mine off I had screws and then a few plastic locks on the two halves, once the screws are out you can feel where the locks are by gently flexing the cover and while doing that they will unlock and seperate. I also had to take off the red cover over my 4 way hazzard switch. The job you are about to do is not the easist hopefully you have some experience with multi-function switches.

I have a 2004 Itasca Sunova 35N on a workhorse chassis. I have found and removed the screws, and the cover locks, the bottom half requires removal of knob for the steering wheel adjustment. The top half requires removal of a ring which is part of the ignition key switch. This is where I am stuck in that I can not figure out how to rtake off the ring/ignition key half.

I "ASSUME" that I will be able to replace the entire turn signal multifunction switch which include curseruse control/wipers, etc.

I am open to any advice.

There should be a lock for the ignition switch but to tell the truth I really can not remember how it works. I am trying to visualize the assembly but right now it escapes me. Sorry, I would rather give you no advise rather than bad. If I think of anything to look for I will let you know.

Thanks for trying

I do like my workhorse but at times it seems to have more problems than Ford.

When you have the steering wheel and the signal switch removed you will find a small hole in the side of the lock cylinder about 1/8" dia, here you will have to push in a pin (bend a coathanger) to release a spring, wile you are keeping pressure on the spring you will be able to remove the lock part of the cylinder with the key inserted. Then the hole assembly comes apart. Take pictures of the steps it will help with re-assembling. There are lots of small screws and springs, be careful not to loose any.

Have Fun.

How is the steering wheel removed? Mine is turned slightly to the right when I am going straight ahead. I would like to adjust it. Joe

Joe,

A steering wheel puller device is used along with a couple of bolts that screw into the steering wheel hub.
However, for moving the steering wheel a small distance, it might be easier if you would lengthen or shorten the drag link,(the linkage that runs from the pitman arm on the steering box. There is a jam nut, that you can loosen on the drag link that allows you to rotate the link to make it longer or shorter. Turn the steering wheel to the position it is in while you are going straight ahead,( you said it was off a little), and adjust the drag link accordingly to bring the steering wheel to the straight ahead position, (the position you are desiring). Caution, a little adjustment on the length of the drag link goes a long way. Hope these directions are not too confusing to you, it really is very easy to do.

Generally you do not remove the cover around the ignition, You pull the steering wheel and work inside the collar.

HOWEVER... On many vehicles (NO I have not looked at anything made this century) the actual turn signal switch is not there.. IT is under the dash on the OUTSIDE of the collum and operated by a cable or rod.

So make sure you know where the switch is first.

azloafer.

There is one other way to straighten the steering wheel, you have to bring the rig to an allignment shop, they will put the coach on the rack and adjust the tie rod ends to straighten the steering wheel.

Thanks, As soon as I have time, I am going to take the coach to a Freightliner shop to have the handling evaluated. Joe
