I have a coach I bought in April on a Workhorse chassis. At approximately 35mph there is a resonant 'howling' sound that comes from the front end. at about 40mph it goes away. Has anyone ever heard this?

I have heard of others hearing similar situations and they found the source to be the coach's GRILL louvers...or something cosmetic on the coach front. You may want to do a search using various terms to see if you can unearth those threads.

We get a howling whistle sound at around 60 MPH. I have always blamed it on the electric "Air" horns mounted on the top just over my head!

I was getting a sound similar and it was found that the windshield wasn't centered in the opening and had an air leak and a water leak also. It was redone at the factory and no more noise from it. Thankfully Bebop

I have an 05 Dolphin and had a howling noise in the front at about 60 Mph depending on the direction of the wind. It turned out to be a vibration in the right side of the grill. To test this rap a bungy cord tightly around the grill bars and see if it stops. If so remove the grill and place 1/4" rubber spacers between the mounts. Or do what I did and leave the bungy cord on. It works and is a good coversation peace.

We were a national dealer. There was a recall to fix this problem. as another said, it is the grill that is causing the problem.

LOL. I'll give this a try. Removing and re-painting the black paint on the grill is on my to-do list anyway. Now I have additional motivation. Thanks!

Ramblin-
Read my old thread on this subject. It cost me a ton of money to fix this problem. Nobody, including Newmar, ever heard about it.
Take the grill out- mine is held in with about 6 screws. An easy job.
Go for a "test run" and if the noise is gone "BINGO". A few bungies will solve your immediate problem.
I welded extra supporting rods into the grill's horizontal pieces and repainted it.
Also, please add your type, model and age, etc, of your motorhome in your signature block. It makes it easier for us to respond to your questions- thanks!
Good luck,

You don't say what year and model your coach is, but some of the earlier coaches like my 2003 Dolphin had flat bars making up the grill in front of the radiator. They howled when the air blew through them at certain speeds. The factory modification was to snap in some rubber strips between the bars.. The strip were made of material that was similar to the sidewalls on tires. They broke up the resonant vibration.

My 2008 Bounder had a moaning sound around 50 and up. I thought it was the left front tire. Then I read somewhere on this forum abought the grill. I removed the tubler grill and gave it a test ride. No moaning. I also read on this forum that the cure is to put 5/16 wood dowel inside the grill tubes with glue. I did this and no more moaning.

The factory had us fill the hollow backside of the grill with silicone.

Wow. Is the grill purely cosmetic? I would think airflow through there would be important to get air through the radiator.
(RV info added to sig line test)
