Hello--my first post here...

I have a 2006 workhorse chassis with 6 speed allison tranny....while this is not trouble--it is just a bit aggravating...from 60-65 mph in sixth gear with my foot just a bit on the accel--I hear a humming sound..step on gas a bit or ease up and it goes away..until about 65 mph reached again...if I downshift it will go away..any ideas on how to rectify

bullydogs1, let me be among the first to welcome you. You may get a lot of answers on this. Mine was not the engine and/or the trans but the front grill. We looked for months to find the humming sound. It was the front grill creating a resonance at a certain mph. Step on the gas it would go away coast just at the right mph and there it was again. Changed just slightly the design of the front grill (changed the wind pattern) and it has not come back sense. Look at everything for these strange sounds.

I don't think it is grill because the sound is accel sensitive if I coast at 65 noise goes away..almost sounds like a low rpm/trans lug thing when you shift a manual into a high gear too soon...at 65 just get off gas--coach stays at 65 but noise goes away...

Perhaps some others will offer up some other ideas. However, don't be hesitant about taking it in with your concerns to a workhorse service center.

I called workhorse center today..they had no service bulletins on it...I know everything is OK but my sensitivity for sounds is quite high..I hear things that other people tell me I'm crazy for hearing...I could try driving the cover folded down and see what happens but I bet I turn a few heads as I am driving...see what happens when you play musical instruments--you get tuned to such things..I can't wait till May for big trip to Ft Wilderness

I might hear a noise but if I put it aside most often I'll be able to find another noise to listen for then that will go away!

We have the same sound. We're gonna try driving with cardboard mods to the grill and see if it makes a difference.
We'll let you know.

I had an accelerator sensitive harmonic that woul come around 55 and disappear around 65. My front grill was round tubing and a couple of the tubes didn't have plugs at the end. Simple? Not a bit. Putting plugs in the ends did little good. The dealer had to put wooden dowels that ran the length of each tube and plug the ends with silicone. No more sound. The quick way to figure it out is to remove the grill (a couple of screws).Hope this helps. By the way, mine changed pitch when passing trucks disturbed the air.

Bullydogs 1,

Your symptoms sound very familiar to the differential problem that I had with 2006 Suncruiser. Others have had the samw problem.
WH knows the problem..
Nice Steady Hummmmm
