ign timing on scan gauge

My ignition timing according to scan gaugell is 20 to 30 pulling up hill and after toping and letting off it goes to 40 to 50 degrees coasting can that be correct? If you would, please check your scan gauge timing. thanks

Ron55.

We're not out in the coach right now, but those figures seem about right. When the engine is under a load the timing would be less to reduce the chance of "pinging". When not under load the timing could be advanced considerably. That's what vacuum advance did in the distributors of the "old days". Advancing the timing improved mileage and could be used under a light load without damaging the motor. I will check mine in a couple of weeks when we go to the Workhorse Chassis Motorhome Club rally in Dundee, Ohio the first week of August.

Ron, My scanner system shows similar numbers.

Agree with DaveL. Ultrapower appears to have about the same range of numbers
