I think my back up light problem (always on with ignition) may originate at the ignition switch / gear shift mechanism , the gear shifter rotates a collar around the column with the electrical connections beneath. If anyone can point me to photos or previous threads showing how to get at these connections i would be grateful thanks Jim

I don't know if this helps but here is a parts breakdown of the steering column on pages 20 and 21.

Most vehicles I've seen with column shifters, the reverse switch is attached to the linkage or linkage arm adjacent to the column under the dash. Moving the shifter to several positions and into reverse, should point you right to it. I've seen some vehicles with the switch mounted down at the trans linkage too. Sorry I can't be more specific. I would agree the switch is stuck "On".

I pulled the fuse and the BU lights remained on , pulled the connection from the switch on side of transmission and lights remained on, that took me to the connections on the steering column where i think there my be a short with another circuit .Working out how to get under the rotating collar attached to gear shift is the current issue
