My 2003 Mountain Aire Workhorse W22 runs great and handles OK but I'm looking for more. Any info on Banks System availability or anythng that would offer more mountain climbing performance and possibly increased MPG would be welcome. Also how do those Bilsteins work on this chassis? I tow a 97 Saturn and have Roadmaster 9000 brake system that I strongly recommend

The Bilsteins improved my coach along with other mods but ride is much stiffer. Many like the Koni`s but they are more expensive.
A lot of people report signifigant power gains with Ultra power upgrade but differ on mpg improvement.

fossil welcome to irv2 and the Workhorse forum.
You can save yourself a bunch of money by having your ECM reprogramed with Ultra-Power
$695 for irv2 members beats $3000 for Banks.
I had it done two years ago and mpg has stayed in the 8-9 mpg range since I had it done was in the 6 mpg before.
The program will increase HP & Torq also.
As you can see by my signature have added other things also.
The following threads will tell you about the CAI DIY jobs and the one CAI from BRAZELSRV.COM.
Have also installed a Trac-bar from HENDERSON'S
Driving the coach in CC is the best there is.

Fossil. The Ultrapower ECM re-program will give you about 60 more HP, which is great and very noticable, but don't count on any MPG improvement. (We got no increase)
The Ultrapower Upgrade is hundreds less than the Banks, and is gauranteed by Brazel's, so.....what do you have to lose!!
Also, do a search for Koni shocks as lots of us have replaced the hard riding Bilsteens for the softer (and more control) Koni FSD shocks.

I suspect that FrontRangeRVer's lack of MPG improvement is the exception to what the vast majority of those with Ultrapower have experienced.
Over the past three years and over 25,000 miles, I still maintain a 1 mpg increase, even when running around the mountains in CO.
I am still a big Ultrapower fan!

At the same time of the Ultrapower install, I upgraded the spark plug wires and re-gapped the plugs, so you would have expected a MPG increase.
Maybe I am spinning the tires too much!

I have to agree with FrontRangeRVer, I noticed no increase in mileage but do notice the difference in power. As far as mileage goes, I've said it before and I'll say it again. In most cases, Ultra Power or not, your mileage will easily increase by a mile or more just due to the engine and drive train getting broke in. The other factor is your weight, and the weight, if any of your tow vehicle.

Seems to me mileage is determined by the amount of pressure on the gas peddle. With more horsepower, I would think you have to push the peddle less to get the same performance. Unless I'm missing something!

One thing that will make a huge improvement in sway and roll is to change the front stabilizer bar from a two inch to a two and a half inch bar.
WH made the change sometime in 2005 as I recall.
My 2004 on a 2003 chassis had the two inch and I installed the two and one half inch one for about $150 as I recall.
That includes shipping and a one day rental of a torque wrench that can handle 275 foot pounds.
There were a number of threads about this back in 2004/2005 on this forum and everyone that made the change raved about it.

Looked like it was CA or nothing. I am definitely interested. I am amazed at the amount of info on this site. I can hardly wait to get home from work(theres that 4 letter word again)to log on. We have 426 days until retirement but whos counting! I don't see it as retiring, it like a new start.

Save your money- I have had a Banks Stinger and the Ultra power system installed. I still get 7MPG. The same mileage my friend with the same coach who had nothing done to his. I flat out don,t believe your going to increase the mpg in a 20k weght coach by 3mpg. I may have increased my power some but its not really noticeable. If I had to do it again i would still go with the Koni,s as they were a noticeable diffrence but thats all.- John

It seems to me that "gas mileage increase" becomes the main issue when it just a by product of the original purpose of an performance mod. UltraPower by its name is what its all about. If it was UltraMPG or UltraMileage you would have something to complain about.
I never have figured out why anyone would spend $2800 for a Banks system when UltraPower does more for $800. Also why would you change from 3" duals to a single muffler and a 4" tail pipe.
You can buy a really good set of Ceramic coated headers, low restriction mufflers, install a "X" pipe system for less than what Banks charges and probably get more HP/TQ for the money

What you're missing is the fact that the gas pedal controls the computer and the computer determines the amount of gas sent to the engine. Flooring the gas pedal does not always mean sending more gas to the engine.
