I presently have a Class C Diesel and we want to move to a Class A with bunks. I cannot afford the Newmars diesel with bunks so I am not looking at the 2009 Adventurer 35Z. My question is with the gas Workhorse W24 engine. Is there enough power in the mountains without slowing down too much, we pull a Ford Focus, about 3,000lbs. Any other comments or references.
Thanks in advance.

I have a Fleetwood Pace Arrow 37C with tripple slides, and travel loaded, on the W22 chassis with the 8.1 engine. I have no problem with power in the mountains on I-81, pulls the 6% grade on I-77 with no problem. I have never pulled the 6% grade that is very curvy on I-40 up Black Mountain over 40mph with any coach I have owned. The last trip to Carlisle,Pa I was passing DP's up hill on I-81.

We have a Dolphin 5376, about 37 feet, on a W24 WH chassis, 8.1 ltr. When towing the Jeep, about 4300 lbs we do have to gear down to 3rd and about 45 mph going over grades like the Grapevine. Without a toad we can keep about 50-55 on the same grade. My only complaint is the fan roar we hear on hot days and when pulling a decent grade, which you wouldn't hear with a DP or UFO chassis
We get a good 8mpg average towing or not. I don't think a oil burner will do much better. Hp is Hp and Torque is torque. One of my friends has a Monaco Exec 42ft 500hp. The darn thing weighs in at near 50k lbs. He reports about the same performance as our Dolphin.

I have a 37` Newmar which is very heavy but the 8.1 makes great power. We pull a CRV with no problem.

That 8.1 engine is the best thing out there when coupled to the Allison tranny. Assuming that you approach the big pulls properly you will have no problem. The worst thing is when a slow moving vehicle pulls in front of you half way up the hill.

Tom,
I installed UltraPower to get the most out of the engine. Also for better fuel economy. At this time I have made two trips with the UP installed and I am not pleased. I have another trip in July that I have done several times each year and will be a better evaluation. My seat of pants, engine rpm v downshifts on the last two trips tell me that I had more power before the upgrade. Fuel economy was down also. Both trips were in the mountains and the next trip is down I-85 to Georgia. That trip will give me better info on economy and power.

Send me a PM with either your last name or your VIN.Also give those 409's a tug a the spark plug & make sure you dont have a loose one.We do not retain the factory shield/spring that is on the factory wires,as they have caused the wires to come loose.

Just a update.
Mike and the staff at Brazels are working with me to make sure that my Ultra Power is the best it can be. I will post a new topic with more information after more testing.

Richard, I had the same reaction and results from my Ultrapower as you....maybe a bit more power, but NO increase in MPG.

Please let us know if there are any new changes to the Ultrapower.

What are they supposed to do to it?
