I found this on another forum and thought it interesting that Fords also seem to be having problems with Calipers. When you talk to Ford owners they all seem to say that only W/H has brake problems.
>>"The calipers have been locking up on my 94 F53 chassis. I have just finished overhauling all wheel calipers. I have bought a laser remote temp gauge and took the vehicle on a 20 mile test hop. I have searched the web and the forum and cannot find any hard data as to what the operating temps should be. Can any one help me?"<<

Jerry, I don't want to downplay brake problems, but this is a 15 year old unit, and one specific year, not 48,000 units produced for numerous model years.

I spoke about Ford's implementation of the pin slide Bosch calipers on their newer models and although we haven't seen much in the way of any ratcheting up of the issue, the calipers I saw were the same as what we use. I expect that Ford owners may exhibit symptoms perhaps 3 to 4 years from now if they are not proactive and begin flushing their brake fluid.

Fred, You are right but the reason it hit me was I thought I remembered DriVer saying something about it some time ago.

There was a substantial discussion on another forum about Ford brake problems in March of 09

rvjer, I just wanted to ask you if you were going to be participating with the "Bounders Crabbing Together Rally" at the Bethpage Campground in Urbana, VA? I'll be there ....

DriVer, No, I don't think I want to drive that far just to "crab" a little but thanks for thinking of me

Brakes is brakes- air or hydraulic, disc or drum, every now and again one will stick just about regardless of manufacturer. The Meritor 4-piston disc calipers on my Alpine Coach (which IIRC are the same units used on the W24?) get an occasional report of a sticking caliper. If it happens, you should take the wheel off & check for overheat, cracking etc. of the rotors just like on the Bosch pin-slide types. Friends who have had the condition have never had a recurrence, but doesn't mean it won't strike twice in one place.

We had a 91 Ford 350E Class C that went through 2 sets of front calipers, at our expense, before they changed them to something about "phenolic pistons" in the calipers etc. Some Fords were covered by "special bulletin", RV's were not.
Praise God we haven't had any problems yet. 06 (09/05) build, W22 Dolphin 6320.
