Am I reading this right-230HP & 620 lbs.-ft. are max output? Is not the ISB (5.9L) 300 Hp & 600 lbs-ft ?

I thought the larger Maxxforce engine would be more powerful, but I'm not a mechanic-so waddaiknow. Can someone 'splain dis to me?? ED

The HP and torque range in the article is for International Medium Duty trucks and it may not be the performance figures that would be dialed into a 6.4L as used in an RV or a pickup truck.

I thought it would be a good paper to bring folks up to speed on the new diesel emission controls for 07.

Hi MIKE, YES it is an excellent resource for the layman to help understand these emmision issues that ALL the diesel motor makers are facing starting with Jan. 07 production. That is why I bumped it back to the top.

I've heard rumors that many are "stockpiling" today's engines that do not meet the more stringent requirements. I'll bet THAT takes a lot of $$$. ED

My choice would be the H/O Cummins ISB. The Maxxforce has to make more hp for the American market, or it will be a loser right out of the box.

Jodi and I are both school bus drivers. She is a full-time driver, and I am a substitute driver. The school bus company is installing a new fuel tank specifically for low-sulfur fuel, which is supposedly not widely available. The word here is that there has not been any testing of this new low-sulfur fuel in the old high-sulfur engines. The bus mechanic spoke about his speculation that every old engine will need some sort of retrofit equipment, probably additional filtering, to make the injectors compatible with the new fuel.

The fleet consists of International, Cummins, Powerstroke, Duramax, and Mercedes Benz diesel engines.

Does anyone have information that I could pass along to the mechanic?

GM </div></BLOCKQUOTE>My wife and I both drive full time! The shop guys stated that the only thing need is an additative (sp) added to the new fuel for the old engines. Too many old truckers on the road to let the oil co. require them to make changes to their engines. We'll see?
