This is on a 2004 Gulfstream Sunvoyager on a W22 Workhorse. I have 16607 miles on it. Well it finally happened. As I had stated before my left front caliper has been heating up and I was able to stop and let it cool off then continue on my way.I checked last time with tempature gun and it was 500 degrees, the other three was about 200 degrees. Well this morning I though it would be a good idea and pull the front hubcaps and check the oil level in the front hubs. The right side was OK, but when I got to the left side and looked at it the rubber plug had blown out of the hub and it showed no oil. I am sure the last time it got hot it happened. Now about 6000 miles ago when I had brake failure Register Chev. had replaced rear calipers, pads, turned rear rotors and also lubed the slides and pins on the front wheels and replaced the grease seal on the left front. They found grease on the inside of the tire. So the problem I have goes clear back to that time period. I called Workhorse and they told me to have Register check it out and then call them. I hope they step up to the plate and do what is right and repair it under warrenty. I am sure glad I decided to check the grease in the front hubs or I would have certainly burnt out the front wheel bearing on that wheel. We are going on a extended trip starting July 21 for 9 weeks and I would have hated to have been laid up somewhere waiting on the repair.

darbyjudy, Thanks for sharing your problem.

I expect that Workhorse will authorize that your brake repairs be taken care of under warranty including your hubs. If this isn't the case please let us know.

In no time at all you'll be back on the road .......

When I took the MH into Register they gave me the opinion that they would look at it right away. Here it is Wednesday and I still have not heard anything. I hope this is not going to be a drawn out affair. I am just very glad that I decided to check the oil level in the front hubs before my upcoming trip or I certainly would have burn out the bearings and who knows what else. I try to keep on top of things, being a mechanic all my life I know how important maintaince is. I have friends who never do anything unless something happens but on the other hand maybe I am too careful. Like checking the tires, I put the guage on them every time it is moved, If I go camping somewhere I will check the tires before I leave and also check them before I come home. I just don't like surprises.
I guess that is what bothers me, as careful as I am I still have these problems come up.

pleae let us know what they do. Im just curious, since they dont have the new parts for the recall I would assume they would be using the same parts that are in the recall. My question is , if they repair yours today under warr and the new parts are ready 6 months from now will they do another brake job with these new parts and if you spent any money on the first repair will you be reinbursed for that as well. Im not sure anone here would have that answer but thought I would ask.

darbyjudy, One of the BEST aftermarket systems I installed is a GIFT from a good friend of mine who presented me with a 10 sensor TPMS. (tire pressure monitoring system) I can check the pressures (plus the toad) while underway, saves zillions of time in the am by just pushing a button from the driver's seat. Still does not absolve one from doing a walk around tire kick!

Our sponsor TST has a very nice system that even displays the temperature of the tire being metered.

Well when I got home from my Dr's visit I had a message on my phone from Register. They said the MH was ready. I called and asked what they had did to it. They said they replaced the wet hub plastic assy, removed and cleaned the slides and the pins on the left caliper and a couple of other things. I am not sure of just lubeing the pins and slides for that was done by Register about 6000 miles ago and I really don't think they should have needed that already. I was hoping they would replace the caliper assy. for I think that is the problem. But if they don't have any thing better to replace it with I guess we will just hope for the best until the recall sometime later in the year. I still feel like some others that the fix is to get rid of the fiber pistons in the calipers. The good news is that Workhorse is paying for the repair, and I salute them for that. No fighting with them or anything. I guess at this time they know we have the problem and I am sure they are going to stand behind us. Since they did not manufacture the calipers I can't fault them in the problem. The engineers where the calipers were manufactured are really the ones at fault, before I would want to sell someone something as important as calipers I would want to know they worked with out a problem.
So hats off to Workhorse.

Mike I wish I had a friend like that, I would love to have that system installed on my MH also. I have looked at them but so far I just haven't been able to justify spending that much money when I have a tire gauge. It sure would be nice though. Don't know why they have to cost so much.

darbyjudy, I hope that you will see the logic in this statement however they don't cost that much when they can notify you of an impending problem when you're going 60 mph down the road.

I went today and picked up the MH at Register. My only cost was for a chrome nut that holds the hubcap on which was destroyed when I removed the hubcaps at home. I ended up having to use a breaker bar about two ft. long in order to get the hubcap nuts loose. Probably the last mechanic that pulled them used his air wrench to put them back on. I have had this problem before. But what they did was just lube the pins and slides on the left caliper, did not replace the caliper. They also replaced the wet hub assy. So at this point I am sure I am going to have problems again. But also at this point I don't beleive Workhorse has the parts to correct our problem with the brakes. I imagine when we are notified by them that we will get the calipers replaced with ones that have steel pistons in them. I remember that was the case with Chrysler many years ago. Or maybe they will find a fiber piston that does not grow with moisture. Also while the MH was in the shop I had them do the fuel clip recall. When I got the recall notice they sent me a clip so I had replaced it myself, but it stll showed that it had not been done. So now I have had two new clips installed. I have to give credit to Workhorse though they did pay for what was done. I just wish that they had the parts necessary to do the recall on the brakes at this time.
