Yep, was headed to Galveston, got as far as Longview, TX(100 miles), pedal went to floor. Had hardly used brakes at all cause still had old caliper on LR. Coach Net towed us 16 miles to WH center there. Tue they replaced both calipers, rotors, and sensors on left side, the front was replaced in Nov 09, the right side in Mar 08.

NOW here is something, they did not have WH calipers in stock, and since we were on the road they put on FORD calipers authorized by WH. I have the part # on the NO CHARGE invoice if anybody gives a darn. What the heck is going on?

Richard

It would be interesting to see that part #. Somewhere I read that Ford uses the same calipers as Workhorse but for some reason are not having the problems which seems strange. I wish for the life of me I could remember where I read that. (senior moment) LOL Being Ford builds there own chassis's I would suspect the part # has been changed from Bosch to there numbering system just to confuse the issue. Still interesting though Ford no issues, Workhorse has many! HMMMMMMMMMMMM?

This is very interesting information. It makes sense, as it was my understanding that Ford uses a 66mm caliper on its F53 chassis as does WH. I could be wrong but I read that somewhere on this forum in the past.

Richard, I've been saying this all along that there isn't any difference between the calipers that Ford uses and the calipers that Workhorse uses. There are just so many companies that make these products for the OE industry. A Ford F Series Super Duty uses a Bosch Hydro-Max brake system and Bosch 66 mm and 73 mm calipers. No mystery.

texans, There's also a dealer in Shreveport, LA as well. I went there a while back to have my starter replaced. There are a small number of Ford dealerships that are Workhorse Authorized Service Centers.

Same part # that is on my web site.

Guys there are millions of the 66mm calipers out there on schools buses, medium duty trucks and step vans (UPS/Freto Lay). The RV parts is probably less then 1/2 of 1%.

OBTW - I believe that Ford also use the 73 mm version on the front and 66 mm on the rear. What's the difference? The size of the piston.

What kind of piston material are in these other calipers?

My left front that also stuck was replaced in Nov 09 in College Station, TX, the right sides were replaced in Mar 08 in Georgetown, TX(no longer a WH SC) They seem to be fine, HOPE HOPE.

From what I understand the big difference between the Buses and the Trucks and the Motor homes with BOSCH brakes is how often they are driven.

Vehicles truly do not like sitting idle, they need to be driven.

wa8yxm, One other system that is not considered are tires. Tires can sit for months at a time and owners expect to get in their rigs and drive away like nothing is going to go wrong.

Richard, That's a fair question that has been echoed many times and responded to just as many times.

Not all Fords use Bosch brakes. Quite a few rigs use Kelsey Hayes or Bendix perhaps. Immediately you have to rule all of those out. The balance of the Fords that have Hydro-Max "have not" accumulated enough install time to equal the long term effects of the seized calipers that we have endured since 2001.

In my opinion Fords whose owners have similiar profiles to Workhorse owners will visit the same problems. These issues are not going to continue to be unique to Workhorse owners. Give it time. It took 7 years before the issues with the Bosch ZOHT calipers began to present problems. Even then the problem was not readily identified until recently.

In your question I would respond that Ford drivers do not drive their vehilces any different than Workhorse drivers. Give them 3-4 more years and we'll re-visit this question again.
