Koni is the overwhelming favorite here. The FSD shock delivers on both ride quality and handling in the opinion of many people who have them much better that the Bilsteins.

The Bilsteins appear to be too tight at times.

Joelyn: If you have a subscription to Motorhome Magazine (or you can access their online version), there is an interesting article about 4 different brands of shock absorbers, including Konis A& Bilsteins. Probably would be helpful for your decision making on what brand to get.

I have just installed a set of Koni's and removed the Bilstiens on our HR Vacationer UFO and can tell you they are worth every cent. Now my DW's coffee in the microwave is only half spilled in lieu of all spilled on California I-40 --- 'nough said from my point of view.

Seriously the Koni's give a smoother ride over the "tar snakes" as well as the dips and bumps---quite a shock.

Regards

I also just had the Bilstiens replaced with Koni's on our Winnebago Destination UFO and can tell you they are worth every cent.

Seriously the Koni's give a smoother ride over the "tar snakes" as well as the dips and bumps---quite a shock. DITTO

my moho had worn out monroe shocks when i got it with <8k miles. i replaced them with koni's from shox.com. the koni's cost more than bils. the main difference is that bils do not have the automatic frequency modulation internally and will ride harder all the time. both will last a lot longer than monroes. to replace them, you will need a 1 1/8 socket and a 1 1/8 box end. an impact wrench makes the job go faster as the bolts are quite long and have self locking nuts on them.
i did a lot of research on this and other forums before i bought the koni's.
i am glad that i went with the koni's. they make a huge difference.

I guess I'm just stubborn, but I replaced my Monroes with Monroes and am happy with the ride. I can't see the cost difference nor the ride improvement that Konis or Bilsteins provide.

Bud, New Monroes will work very well for you however I completely wore out a set of 4 in 30,000 miles and the motorhome was back to bouncing around. Once you try a set of Koni FSD shocks and run them for a while, I can tell you that you'll never look back. I was skeptical at first about the FSD shocks but they have been great.

I consider 30K miles on a set of shocks a pretty good run. I could buy 4 to 5 sets of Monroes for one set of Konis. we have had this discussion before, that good handling is the driver's perception. I happen to have a stock 2003 chassis without the 18" wheel and the larger stabilizer bar, and no other chassis mods. and consider it a good handling unit after 5 trips to Florida and various other jaunts. I have made sure my tire pressures and weight loading are within mfg. specs. BTW If KONI wants to send me a set I would be happy to try them out and write a user report ....

FSD= Frequency Selective Damping

That is the technology that allows these shock absorbers to adjust automatically to different road & handling conditions. The only shock on the market that does this.

Captin Bud. If you havn't tried the difference you can't comment.
I was reluctant to change over but when I did, I found 3 out of the 4 Monroes were DEAD. I used Bilsteins on my previous coach - harsh. I put on Koni shocks this time. Even the wife comments how much better the ride is. It is probably as close to an air ride as is possible on a gas coach.
