Yes changing shocks is a PITA. I love my Koni's. Never had them on my 05 W-20 but put them on my DP that had Bilsteins from the factory and it was a major upgraded differences in ride and handling.

Below is a link to a product that is the bomb guys for us DIYs. I been using it for 20 years and it really works. You won't use anything else. It can be found at some Marine parts houses (Not West Marine). I've busted fasteners apart that were so corroded that I thought I would have to cut them off. Here's the company website and you can order directly from them if you can't find it locally. I've used everyone of their products at one time or another and was very impressed.

I have been spraying my exhaust bolts all winter with Kroil in hopes they come out in the spring so I can fix my exhaust leak. I try to hit them every two weeks or so if I can get into the storage facility.

Hey F4gary - have you had a chance to finish your shocks? Just wondering what you think of the ride now. I changed mine out around 1.5 years ago and love the new ride.

Curious if you think the ride quality is better due to differences between the Koni vs Bielstein or the fact that the old ones were worn out?

harleyjt, I am not sure the shocks were worn out - when we purchased it 2.5 years ago it had 12,500 miles on it. The porpoising was horrible and overall ride was rough. I am sure they were the original shocks - no manufacture name that I could see - but they were blue in color and some research indicated they were Bielstein. There is also less sway - not sure if this is the proper term but when going around corners it does not tilt as bad before the Konis were installed. we have put 10,000 miles on it since the shock changed and are still very pleased with the ride.

You will like the Koni's much better ride control than the Bilsteins. Passing semi's and wind buffeting, the difference is night and day better that Bilsteins. Worth the extra cost, Takes about 2 hours total time to change on my 35 ft Damon

Top bolts to 150 ft lbs on the torque wrench and pulled as hard as I could.

Bottoms are an allen wrench in the shaft, so I tightened as much as my allen wrench could handle.

I tightened until it looked like my allen wrench was starting to bend.
