Currently I am running five year old Michelin XRV 235/80r22.5 tires that are starting to show sidewall cracking. After much reading on this forum, I am thinking of going to Goodyear G670 tires. The Goodyear website lists the 275/70R22.5 tires as the closest to what I currently have on the my W22. They have a meas. Rim width = 7.50, overall width = 10.4, outside Diameter = 37.6 and Max load (single) of 6940@125. The next size up is 275/80R22.5 with an meas. Rim width = 8.25, overall width = 11.1, outside Diameter = 40.2 and Max load (single) of 7160@125. I realize that a larger tire on the rears would change my speedometer readings.

My questions are:
1. can I put the larger/wider tire on the the front and/or rear?
2. would a larger/wider tire on the front help stablize the steering?
3. can I put differeent sizes tires on the front than on the rear?
4. should I just go with the closest to what was installed originally?

I'm not sure you'd want to go to a larger diameter, for no other reason than loss of power. As you mention your speedo would be off but you could have the ECM reprogrammed to correct that. The real issue is the power problem. Most Workhorse chassis' are already pushing the limit on power to weight ratio. I think you might be overtaxing the power plant/transmission arrangement too much.

You could use there tires on front but you have to keep the spacing between the rear duels the same. If the spacing is too close they will rub against each other when you hit bumps or dips in the road.

Also you need the tire that fits your rims. What is your rim width now? A good dealer could tell what will work.

The ABS will probably react unfavorably with tire sizes differing front to rear!
Don't know if that is something that could be handled with reprogramming.

A larger tire will also reduce your gas mileage.

Thank you guys. I think I will stay with the same size tires all around and about the same size that is on there now.

I see another tread this morning about the Michelins weather cracking and the guys getting them replaced. Besides my tires being five years old, I too have a lot of weather cracking.

Does anyone know if the Goodyear have this weather cracking problem also?

We replaced ours last May and are very happy. We went with the Goodyear G-670 255/70R 22.5 H rating. Our coach had a very low CCC at purchase, so we always run at the full weight limits. We feel safer with the H rating.

Smoother ride, less air pressure required in tires. We have noticed nothing negative.

Mine are 2002 Goodyear G670 19.5 tires..
No checking, cracking or un-even tire wear.. I would replace with the same hands down.
Very happy with the quality and performance of Goodyear tires.
