As I returned my FR Georgetown UFO to my storage yard the step went "boing" when I stepped down to open the gate. No motor connection and it just hung to the ground. Can't imagine if that happened on a freeway! Some bungies got me to my parking spot where I could take a quick look before the rains came in.

I saw the ball joint arm for the two step Lippert unit and was able to order a replacement. No matter how hard I've looked via this site, or Google or Lippert and Stromberg Carlson who also sells the steps, nobody shows the motor to step linkage via the dual ball joint arm.

Does anybody have a link to an assembly drawing? Before I crawl in the mud to take on this job, I want to know what I'm facing and if I have to drop the steps etc.

Thanks in advance to the great folks on this site.

Lipperts Components has several views of all 3 steps, even pictures of all the parts. But like you said no drawing of the gear and linkage operation. The best picture of that is in the Installation manual even though it does not show the connection of the ball joint arm to the rotating step bar.

Dave thanks for the try. I found these too. I wouldn't have bothered this group without checking all the stuff I could come up with first. I guess my shoulder blades are headed into the mud after I get the part.

A merry and a happy to all.

Would it be of any benefit if I were to take pictures of mine from a couple different angles?

Mine is sitting in my driveway vs. the yours in the mud.

I would love to see pictures of a whole bar in place. When I first saw the damage I thought it was a single bar with a ball joint and a threaded fitting into the step rotating bar. Only after I tracked down the part did I realize it was double ball joints.

I look forward to the picture when you get a chance. It will be a week or so before I get the part and can't start on anything till then.

Thanks much,

I'll snap a couple with the steps out and a couple with them in. Based on those you can tell me if different angles are required.

Dark now, I'll get them tomorrow when it's light out.

I steped on our once when it was moving and broke the shear pin. Ordered one from Stromberg ( no charge) and bought a stud removal kit, backed out the old pin and then screwed in the new pin. Thought it would be a hard job, but actually less than 15 minutes and did not have to remove anything.

I broke the shoulder bolt that holds the gear in place while heading up the ALCAN. Fortunately I had access to the top of the step unit and was able to get visegrips on the remaining portion of the bolt and spin it out. Tied the steps up until I could order the replacement bolt. Pretty simple job once the bolt arrived. Hardest part was getting the gear in the right spot for equal travel in and out, took 2 maybe 3 tires.

You should ask Lippert if they would like to purchase your pictures!

My ball joint broke last year. You will have to order the whole assembly. the rod ends have a left and right threads. I lost the web sit since my computer took a dive. I will try and do a search and if I find the web page I will post it.

Lippert components Electric Automatic Coach step rebuild

4 bolts and 2 wire connections and possibly one ground and you can take the whole assembly out. But thats a lot of work to some.
