Just came back from 1100 mile trip and noticed a small oil spot on the driveway. A closer look revealed a puddle of oil on top of the exhause manifold. So I became worried.
More inspections revealed what I think was(is) the problem. On the driver side, near the 3rd cylinder, there is a screw-in plug. I put a socket wrench on it and I can easily turn it tighter by almost 1/2 turn. So I tightened it. Does anyone know how much to torgue this plug? I also looked at the passenger side, and there is a sensor in the same location (oil pressure?) and I tightened that a little...
So I hope I fixed the problem. There looked like some kind of goop applied to the plug, anyone know what that goop is? I presume the plug should not be "loose" at 22k miles.

The odor on the other hand is a dead giveaway.

I found the same condition on my 03 and posted the info on this forum. You found anti-freeze and not oil. It took me almost a year before I found the loose plugs on my RV. It never leaked on the driveway but I could always smell it. I put teflon tape on both the plug and the sensor. I tightened them to what I though was tight enough and I have never had the problem again.

Ahhh...I am feeling a little better now...Antifreeze huh? It did feel a little oily, but wasn't as dark as I thought oil would be. Never thought that it could be antifreeze. That may explain why I have to add coolant so often...It (the plug) is more that finger tight now. Knock sensor...that makes sense too...
Thanks everyone!!

If it is truly the knock sensor then you need to take it to a Work Horse dealer and have it checked. Tightening the knock sensor to the wrong spec can give false readings to the computer.

The sensor between cyl's 4 and 6 (partially obscured by the dipstick) is the coolant temp sensor; the matching plug on the driver's side simply plugs the unused hole in that head (the head castings are identical, so one hole must be plugged).

As I think I posted elsewhere, my sensor leaked & was easily unscrewed. Removed it, cleaned, re-sealed with teflon pipe dope, and re-installed, & no more leaks.
