2005 Fleetwood/Bounder with a work horse chassis. Gas engine. transmission locked up in park. I suspect the pawl in the trans. With the shift lever in park, the engine will start, the level jacks will engage and disengage ok. Slide-outs will operate Ok. I just cant get the shift lever out of park. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

There "should be" a switch on the brake pedal arm that "may" need to be adjusted so it will "tell" the tranny that you are depressing the brake pedal. The switch may have been inadvertantly "kicked" out of position or become unplugged. Look there first. Good luck. Ed

Thanks Ed, I disconected that switch, nothing happened. I can't tell if it's out of adjustment.

You may need to "rock" the rig if it's on a hill there can be a lot of pressure on the pall.. If you have a towed, Try pulling back or pushing slightly forward (UPHILL) if not.. Good luck.

The 'switch' controls a solenoid that control the parking/lock pin at the shift lever..

... or, it should Disconnecting it wont do any thing, it needs to make a contact.. If you dont have a wiring diagram, you can work backwords..

Check there.

to check to see if the parking pawl has too much of a load on it, you can securely chock the front wheels of your moho and lift the rear wheels off the ground with your leveling jacks.
as ed said, you have to depress the service brake pedal with authority to release the transmission lever so that you can shift it out of park.
i had to jack the rear wheels once.
now, i engage the parking brake before putting the tranny lever in park.
i emphasize the need to securely chock both of the front wheels before jacking the rear wheels.

Hmmmm - - typed a reply and then think I lost it - - apologize if this arrives twice.

Think your problem is with what is called the BTSI - - or Brake Transmission Shift Interlock. It involves the goodies on the steering column that someone mentioned above. System is sposed to keep you from shifting out of PARK unless you have your foot on the service brake.

It is not something we know much about at the AutoPark Library, but I do have a little bit of info lifted from manuals. If you would like, you could contact me at oldusedbear11@charter.net and I'll send you what we have.

Are the brake lights coming on when you press the service brake? I have seen (mainly on Fords) a blown out brake light fuse not allowing you to shift out of park.

That has happened to me twice since buying the coach new in 9/07. I think I was able to shift it by having the engine off but the key on , and stepping on the brake . Then starting the engine while shifter is in the neutral position. Then everything was normal. Hasn't happened again in last 2 years. Don't know what it was . Hope this helps.
