I recently purchased a 2005 Pace Arrow, Model 36D. I am attempting to match all the keys to locks. My problem is the locking handles on the basement storage compartments. I have four keys which all fit but do not turn the lock mechanism. I have broken keys off in lock before and am a little cautious. Is there something unique about these locks or do I just need to apply a little T-9 or WD-40 and more pressure?

Grandpavan,
It may help the key turn the lock if you gently apply pressure to the compartment door (either a push or pull, depending on the latching mechanism) while you finesse the key.
These compartments are typically fitted with a gasket which applies pressure to the door to seal out water. This can cause the striker to bind agains the receiver. Jiggling the door as you turn the key sometimes helps.
Use a non-petroleum (graphite) lubricant on locks to avoid attracting dirt.
Hope this helps you...
Jim

Grandpavan,
I have a 2005 Southwind and the key that opens the hatch locks is a TRI/MARK. It is a key with black gover like the ignition key. It also locks the door to the coach.

Good Man - thanks for the advice. I'll try the finesse route and graphite.
TAMU62 - my tri/mark keys open the driver's door and the coach door but not the compartments.

If I understand your post correctly, you have tried 4 keys and can't get "Any" of the compartment locks to work. That seems very strange as my 2005 Pace has never had one lock malfunction. Like Tamu62 mentioned the same key that that fits the lower lock on your entrance door should match the compartments, unless the door lock has been changed. I can see maybe one or two locks hanging. Good luck.

Did you purchase new or used? Is it possible the previous owner re-keyed some of the storage areas?
You have 4 keys are they all different or are two or more the same key pattern?
On our RV, there is one key that fits the storage doors, drivers door, and house door. Another key for the house door dead bolt. Another key for the gas door and hood locks. Finally the ignition key.
The tip on applying pressure to the lock are of the door while turning the key is a good one.

I tried to have keys made to fit my bay compartments (Newmar Mountain Aire).
"No Joy"
I had to call Newmar with my Newmar build number and they sent me three new ones. They require a special blank. They are a stock item for Newmar products.

Do you have a Tri-Mark that is "Double Cut" .. If so that's it.
Worst case, remove the lock,, If the compartments are not locked there may be a plate on the back side, 4 screws and the whole lock assembly comes out in your hand.
Then find a real good locksmith. cause only a few carry that key blank.
