I went out with my motorhome just for a drive. It has set for about 2 months.
I was out about 10 miles from home when suddenly, it began to lose power and could not get over 45 mph, the mh backfired and I barely made back into my driveway. I removed the fuel filter and could not blow through it. I ordered a fuel filter and adapter kit which I am waiting to be delivered. Could there be additional problems, engine, fuel pump? What should I expect right after the fuel filter install? After installing the filter will it run right away or will the engine miss a little while good fuel system is up to normal? Thanks ................

TXredfish: I have no way to know "for sure", but I'm wondering if you built up a quantity of water from condensation while it sat for months. This can happen any time the tank is not kept FULL. The water will be at the bottom of the fuel tank, right where the pump's pickup sock is located.

While you wait on the replacement filter, you could try running the pump by turning the key on, and see what comes out of the disconected fuel line from the tank to the filter location. Try to catch some and put in clear jar to see.

Hopefully, you just plugged up the old filter with sediment and the engine was starving for fuel. IF that is the case, you may go thru a few more filters before you get it all trapped in the filters, but at least with the adapter, you can use the readily available $10.00 variety. Good luck!

I would say you will be fine except you said it backfired. Backfire usually means a rich mixture.

Maybe check your plug wire being burnt, if it is backfiring.

I had a backfire condition when I had a bad plug wire.

If a person can not blow through the filter it needs to be replaced. I do not think that a plugged filter would cause the engine to backfire.

I originally had said that my MH was backfiring. It was not really backfiring, just sputtering, like starving for gas or water in gas. I replaced the fuel filter. I could not blow through the old filter, so it seemed to be clogged. I then tried to test drive and could barely get it around the block and in my driveway. It sputtered all the way around the block. Then I put in about 3 pints of Seafoam. I ran and then let sit overnight. I drove it up and down my driveway about 150 feet. It seemed to run OK. Monday I will test drive about 50 miles. It acted like water in the gas. If this does not work, how do I empty the gas and dispose of the bad gas (about 70 gallons). I climbed under the MH and listened at the gas tank. It seemed like the gas pump inside the tank was running all the time. Is this normal?
Any other ideas?
Thanks ................

On my 8.1 Vortec I always hear a hissing noise back by the gas tank. That is a normal noise.
Every one has it on that W22 chassis. Or at least the twenty people that responded to that question had it and the GM dealer said it was normal.

Your on the right track, go to WalMart in the auto section and get a couple bottles of "STABIL" fuel addative, in a red bottle and dump it in the tank, works miracles. Mine will set sometimes for 2-3 months without problems. JMHO
