Yesterday when I picked up our new-to-us '03 Southwind (W22 chassis) I heard an alarming noise when I shut it down; a loud clattering from under my left foot sort of like an airless compressor, lasted 2 or 3 seconds. AC was off, noise did not recur. Any ideas? Unable to reproduce.

This is probably the compressor that runs when the motor is off and your foot is on the brake. Workhorse puts this on to help keep braking action even when the motor is off. Try putting your foot on the brake with the key off and see if it starts making the noise again. Then take your foot off the brake and it should stop.

Well it's actually an electric motor but we'll say it was a compressor.

The motor provides emergency pressure to your braking system in the event you ever loose power from the engine while you are underway.
