The caliper pins that have been talked about recently, are these the bolts that hold the caliper to the rotor assembly or are they something else.

I'm asking because our MH is going in for the brake fluid change and the coolant change on Monday and I might as well get them taken care of at the same time.

Also, DriVer made reference to a silicone lube for this purpose. Is there a part number or a specific brand of lube that is preferred? If so I will buy some and ask the tech to use it instead of using whatever they have lying around.

Thank you.

I too would like clarification of the so-called
caliper pins that supposedly need lubrication.

Can someone show us this with a photo? It would be greatly appreciated.

Lubing the pins is one operation and physically removing the caliper, inspecting the entire assembly for corrosion and applying lubricant to all the sliding components is preferable.

You can get detailed information on this process by getting the Workhorse Maintenance CD.

You want to use hi temperature brake grease. The grease has a silicone component to it I understand and you should be able to get this off the shelf at a major automotive parts store.

DriVer, thanks for the info on the lube.

Specifically, what I was wondering is, are the pins that are being referred to internal parts of the caliper assembly or are they the bolts that hold the caliper assembly in place on the rotor assembly?

I just would like to know what to tell the tech without sounding like and idiot...which I am more than somewhat qualified to do.

I think that a good ASE certified mechanic should be able to figure all that stuff out. What's really important is to support the caliper so it doesn't put any weight on the brake lines or ABS sensor cable.

IF you need the process exactly as it's in the book I might be able to cut and paste that for you tomorrow.

DriVer;

Here's my vote that you post the information so I can better understand it.

Thank you,

I purchased the CD so I would have this information but this information is not on the CD. In fact they do not even show the caliper for the W20/W22.

lubing them up is a simple process. I watched a wh shop do it. you just apply a liberal amount of grease to the shaft of the pin and reinstalle it. I took less than 10 min to do the front. He did the front ones one at a time without taking the wheels off. In fact he didnt have to crawl under it. He used the jacks to raise the mh giving him more room between the wheel well and the tire. He then leaned over the tire, unbolted 1 pin, lubed it, and put it back in. He did the same with the second pin before moving to the other side. the reason I didnt have him pull the wheels off and inspect the brakes is because he had already done that about 1-2 weeks earlier. In fact mine looked good but I had him grease them anyway. Im being very serious when i say it took all of 10 min. I hope you guys can read this because i dont know where spell check is on this site an Im sure i have butchered some words
