MAF sensor problems I think.

We full time and move alot. Recently our 06 Winnebago Adventurer on a 05 Workhorse W24 keeps getting CEL code 102. The MAF sensor was replaced with the first light in Knoxville. Second CEL came on outside Kansas City. Had it checked out again. No problems found except a 102 code.
I then drove it over the Rockies on I 70. It sure wasn't happy about that. No light but performance is real low. It hesitates, lacks power and idles rough. Morning comes along and it runs okay. Had it checked again and indication is an intermittent connection on MAF. Replaced the cable. Ran good until this afternoon. Now I am in the middle of nowhere and not sure what to do. All my stops have been at Workhorse service centers on the old list. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

How is your air filter? A dirty filter can result in a lower MAF output voltage.

Unfortunately, I don't know how to get it apart. I see where it is because I can see a sliver of it from outside the enclosure. I asked if that was normal and was told it was sealed tight. ?? I actually bought a Wix. So I carry it.

I would imagine my '05 W22 can't be much different in layout than your W24. I can see the edges of my filter, which I changed a few months ago, squeezed between box and the lid of the holder. The edges are soft and when the lid is shut with the clips properly in place, it should not leak any air.

I turn the front wheels completely to the left to give me room to reach in front of the tire and undo the middle and right clip on the top of the lid. To get to the left one, I have to reach in from the front under the hood. (On the other hand, if you don't mind crawling on the ground a bit, I recently slid under the bodywork, feet first, in front of the tire when I cleaned the MAF sensor. Once I got my head completely under there, I had plenty of room to sit up and reach things.)

On mine there are no clips on the bottom, just tabs that fit into matching slots. When it's unclipped it's easy to pull the pieces apart and pull out the old filter.

Was the air cleaner replaced? I can't imagine several places NOT changing the air filter with a code like that but......

vagaron's description is good. I raised my front end with the levelers and was able to change the air filter without too much trouble.

Another thing suggested in that link is a voltage problem. Is your alternator putting out 14.volts all the time?

When was the last time you changed plugs and wires?

Have you ever changed the fuel filter?

Let us know what you find.

Before throwing more money and parts at this problem, I would start with the filter especially if you already have one on hand.

One other question, have you ever had an issue with misfires during rain? If you did and that filter is still in place the filter may be the issue. Water ingestion is a known issue and steps can be taken to prevent it in the future.

I checked my records and no air filter replacement for too long of a time. This I did before sun up, replaced the filter. Not all that difficult for a fat old man. Turned the wheels all the way right. Head first, sat up. I am in HOT Utah. I am going to do one thing at a time.
Plugs and wires I've already replaced with better than stock.
Thanks so much! We'll see today!

We saw today and it was not good. The engine missed, it back fired (sounded like it), and on long pulls, it would all of a sudden loose power. Altitude was between 5500 and 8000. I think I need to start this process over starting with plugs and wires.

Have you had the fuel pressure checked? Has the fuel filter been changed recently?

Check your wires, see if there are signs of heat damage. What wires are installed?

A lot of MAF sensor problems are caused by air leaks between the sensor and the engine. Any vacuum leak will set a MAF code. Just somthing to look at.
