Max Speed Drop to 80mph?

Has anyone seen or heard of the max speed dropping from 85 to 80mph?
For some reason, on our way home this Fall, my top speed limit dropped 5mph. Down from 85 to 80! I don't usually go that fast, but if I'm on a long downhill stretch of deserted freeway, I will let it run for a while.
It turned over 100,000 km while on the trip, don't know if that has anything to do with it or ??
The throttle just goes dead, and "Max Speed" or something like that shows up on the dash display.

Happy Glamping.

In case you don't see my signature, it's a 2007 W24 8.1 chassis on a 2008 38J Winnebago.

YOUR SPEED LIMITER IS KICKING IN. I would think it is just a glitch that it dropped 5mph. I don't want to be a "fraidy cat" but are you aware the speed ratings on your tires are probably 75 mph.

I had a 2005 Voyage on a w22 chassis and I also hit the 80MPH speed limiter going down a long grade out West. I think it is programed into the ECM of all Workhorse chassis.

Send a message via ICQ to Fred and Bonnie
Check your tires, most likely the limit is 75MPH.

'They' have been monitoring your speeds and took decisive action. You are now limited to 80 mph/max.
IF you continue to bump-up/run at Max Speed in the future you will have your Max Speed lowered to 75 mph. Further infractions will result in lowering of MAX Speed in 10 mph increments.

My W24 chassis 38J has the S80 Option which is the 80 MPH SPEED LIMITER.

Get the build sheet for your chassis. I would bet yours has the S80 Option as well.

I think all W24's with the 5.86 final drive came with the S80 option. I have not seen one that didn't.

The thing that gets me is it would go to 85 before.
It's OK though, like others have said, my tires are rated for 75mph, and my Ranger is only supposed to be towed at 55mph or less! It must have been freaking out back there.
If nobody else is watching, it's fine though, right?
Happy Glamping.

Have you ever thought about a front tire blowout at 80 mph? I had a front tire blowout at 55 mph and it was all I could do to hang on to the steering wheel while the truck and camper lifted off the ground on one side during the unexpected swerve.

My dad stated he 85 once going down hill with mine. I know the governor kicks in at 80. He stated that is just did it momentarily. My guess is the hill was not steep enough to let you coast up to 85. While in this motorhome I would not want to cruise at 80 or 85, there are sometimes that I don't like the 80 mph limiter kicking in, when you are trying to get a run on a hill.

My old motorhome did not have a governor. I could cruise at 80 or 90. It would do over 100. (LT tires rated for 106 mph)
