This past week I ordered replacement tires for my motorhome. I ordered the same that was on the MH, Michelin XRV 235/80R22.5. While doing the research I came across the Michelin X One XRV tires. Does anyone know anything about them other than that they require 14" wide rims? I forgot to ask my Michelin dealer what they cost or what the rims might cost. Michelin makes them sound like the best thing since sliced bread.
What do you guys think?

Your note of 14" rims threw me a curve.
But I see that is a 14" WIDE rim, 22.5" in diameter.
This tire reminds me of the super single we see on some HDTs.
We'll see if it catches on in the RV industry.
However, I would think Michelin would not have introduced this tire without some positive market research.

I agree with Dirk on this. We see these tires allot on Redi-Mix Concrete trucks in our area. I think it is because of the terrain they have to unload in.
My concern would be how available a replacement tire would be in case of a tire failure. I am sure most dealers don't stock one.

Interesting info. Michelin uses reference to "RV' use pretty much. we'll see if anyone on the forum uses them.

It is designed to replace the duel tire/wheels on the rear of the RV. That is why it needs a 14" rim. It is very wide. Sounds like a great idea until you realize that you will have to carry 2 spares. 1 for the front and 1 for the rear.

So am I to assume that no one knows anything about these tires?

I think it is safe to assume that none of us has any experience with them. As far as I know, none of the coach builders/chassis manufactureres have made them available...yet.
However, thanks to your post, I'm betting a lot more people (more than 200, for sure) know about them. That is a good thing, and it certainly supports our Mission statement, so THANK YOU! ED

I have read in Trade Magazines that some Commercial Truck Fleets have made the change to "super singles" and the justification was increased fuel mileage. Not sure why this type of tire would have any effect on mileage.

A 2 year old Federal study was inconclusive about anticipated aerodynamic improvement with super-singles. However, sidewall flexion and heat rejection were not addressed. Neither were any severe weather tests outlined. This observer believes in the inherent redundency of the classic system. However, these tires may be usefull in spanning the ever growing potholes of I80 and I81 in Pennsylvania.

Winnebago used to make an rv with the super size rear tire in place of the duals, I beleive it was called an "Ultra" if I remember correctly. We saw one on the road last fall. They stopped making them for some reason, maybe because of weight capacity limitations, but at least at that time the tire must not have been what the public wanted. Maybe the new tire with with the technical advances made in wheels and suspensions will be something we will all want? The Ultra looked nice with the single wheels on back instead of the duals.
