I decided today that I would shimmy under the motorhome and inspect my brake rotors for cracking. I slid under the front and at least 1/3 of the rotor was exposed and very easy to inspect, No cracking. I shimmied under the rear and to my surprise the 1/3 have shields over them, can't see the rotors. Why do I have shields on the rear and not the front? Did they just forget to replace the front shields when I had the recall done?

In support of your question I reviewed the Workhorse Service Manual and there wasn't any shields on the front brake rotors. To confirm this, I went outside and my motorhome that at 50K miles has not had any brake service does not have dust shield on the front rotors.

My flashlight stinks but the rotors looked great!

Yet another service from the folks that care; from iRV2.com direct to you and thanks for the question.

Geese DriVer, I didn't mean for you to go out in the dark, in the cold with your stinky flashlight to check your coach and give me an answer. Thanks!

I suspect everything is normal, just thought it was strange that there are shield on the rear and not the front.

I haven't crawled under mine to see if the calipers are on the leading, or trailing edge of the axle.......but here's my theory.

If the rear brake caliper is on the trailing edge (back) of the axle, it would be possible for rocks kicked up from the front tires to hit the exposed portion of the rotor on the leading edge of the axle. With the same caliper layout on the front, you would only have to protect the rotor from rocks/debris kicked up by other vehicles in front of you.

If the calipers on the leading edge in the rear.....then I can't really come up with a good theory!
