I conversation with Driver, he stated he would not use Dexron to change the spin on filter
for the Allison.

But I have always questioned the use of 2 flushes and to top it off with TranSynd.
JUst how close to 100% is that??
Working with 17qt.Allison pan {verse 19}
My math said 58% first flush. and 88% the
second flush. {math not my best subject}
Anyway that gives me 4.25qt. of dexron,or
136oz.

And one has to change it 4 times before
you get in the 95% bracket!!
What say you, how far off am I?? TENN.

Asumming 10.6 Qts per flush and 17 Qts total capacity, I get;
62.4% synth on first flush.
85% on second flush.
95% after 3rd flush.

Not sure about total capacity. Couldn't find a reference to that.
I know I had exactly 1 1/2 quarts left over of 3 gallons after topping trans on the first go around. That adds up very close to 10.6 qts.

I had mine replaced with Syn in Oregon at an Allison Dealer who gave me a certifcation and recept of tansyn for extended maint specs. As far as how much is left??? As long as I have the paperwork it's between the Allison dealer and Manufacturer to argue if something happens, which I doubt.

On the other hand if you have a mix or a 2 change strategy in place, I would refill the spin on with Transynd regardless of the concentration of D3.

If you have a load of D3 in the transmission then by all means use D3.

You guys and Allison are confusing the heck out of me. On my 1000MH Transmission, if I drain the pan, how many quarts do I drop (approx)? Are you saying there's 17 qts in the pan? So when I refill it wouldn't I put that same amount back in?

And then after driving it and warming it up, drain the pan again and refill with the same amount.

The Allison doc's I've read on the 1000 say 14.8 qts on the initial fill and 10.6 qts on the refill. What gives?

waOmqe,
I see the same 14.8 qts in the documentation you mention. This number does not include oil lines and cooler. So maybe thats what adds up to the 17 qts. When you drain the pan and remove it, you will only take out about 10.6 qts. The remainder that does not drain is still in the torque converter and the rest of the system. You add 10.6 qts back to refill the trans.
hope this helps.

So! You think your confused now, wait.

An Allison transmission both 2100 and 1000 series units plus the torque converter and the cooling lines and the cooler hold (drum roll please) Nineteen quarts. (From dry sump to full.)

This is why the Allison tech told me to remove and drain the pan and allow the pan to remain off the sump overnight so the cooler lines can leak down as much as possible. (pan gasket re-usable) (torque the pan bolts to inch-pounds and refer to the table for the right amount of in/lbs)

Now if you only restore 10.6 quarts having done the above procedure you're going to be short a couple of quarts of fluid. Make sure you stick and check the level.

Best method is to measure what you took out and replace what you removed, run the vehicle until it achieves operational temperature and check it one-mo-time.

Allison in their wisdom will do a one dump and tell you to run the tranny for 20k miles and then return again to re-dump. The better option is to dump & refill what you have, run the motorhome until it achieves operational temperature and then re-dump & fill again after about a 10 mile run. No need to run out to 20K miles.

If you get power flushed keep that 19 quarts in mind when you pay the bill. If they are charging you for less than 19, I would ask why ??

Thanks to both of you "M&EM" & "Driver". Now at least it's clear. I was planning on doing it more or less the way Driver's answer says to do it.

Now all I need to do is find a place where I can purchase the Transynd at a reasonable price here in Colorado.

The Allison tran. hold 17qt. with the 1000 unless it has the deep pan
then it holds 19qt. Dont know what mine is, would hope it is the 19qt.
Pacafic Coast Allison/Detroit, in Seattle told me, that Allison did not
recommend the power flush for the 1000. So they pulled the plug on the
pan, and replaced the filter. When I got back to Chesapeake, Va. I changed
it again, 10qt.and 4 or 6 oz. in the filter. TENN.
