Right now I have all the carpet ripped out of the coach for replacement. With the easy access to the dog house and nothing in the way would this be a good time to Simple Green the top side of the motor and give it a good bath. Is there anything up top side there I should be wary of getting wet. Also is there another product you all would recommend for this task.
Thanks

I'd leave it alone unless your going to a show. Never have cleaned MH engines unless there was a oil leak after engine job. Its just going to get dirty again and time is precious.

I have always keep the motor in my motorhomes degreased. Every year I remove the dog-houuse, just to get a good look at everything, and at that time I spray the engine with a degreaser and hose it off. I have always taken a hose into the coach and assuming your carefull there is no reason to get the carpets wet. I'm not really concerned with the looks of the engine however, a clean engine is certainly less of a fire hazard and if I need to work around the engine ie: changing a belt or whatever, I'll be a much happier camper.

I have cleaned the engine in my motorhome once or twice. I usually just use a parts brush (looks like a giant makeup brush) to loosen the dust and vacuumed it. I don’t have any grease or oil on my engine, just dust. I wouldn’t use simple green unless you rinse it off real good. I hear it’s not good for bare aluminum.

Thanks for the replys, before the carpet goes back in I'll detail that baby like the Harley, well maybe not that much. I'll get the Engin cleaner, No simple green and the brush then wet vac it.
I'll combine all the good idea's. Mine as well all the chairs are out and I don't have to worry about making a mess.
Thanks again.

Cover the alternator with rag to make sure you don't flood it when soaping it up and rinsing it off. Make sure you remove the rag!

Also, run the engine for a while after cleaning so the engine heat will help remove moisture.
