2 days ago driving from Palm Springs, ca to Fountain Hills, AZ we stopped at a rest area approx 20 miles from Blythe, CA to let the dogs do there thing. The motor home wouldn't start and I noticed the trans was in reverse not in park. When I moved the gear shift it was free wheeling up & down. Figured I had a linkage problem. Called workhorse, tech said my trans didn't have linkage I had a modulator. My m/h is a Trail-Lite 32 ft w18 hydromatic trans. He said they will have to tow me the next morning to a workhorse site 95 miles away in Yuma, AZ. At this point my wife put a for sale sign in the window. I figured it was safer under the m/h than inside so under I went. There I see the linkage that I don't have hanging in the air. I put a nut & bolt in and off we went. The next day I brought it in to Fountain Hills RV where I purchased the m/h and they fixed it up while I waited. I have read on this site as what to carry, I will now carry several sizes of nuts & bolts in my toolbox. I did call workhorse and cancel the tow when I got 5 miles from my house.

And some of these guys are called TECH'S? You wonder where they come from. I know that I can do about 95% of the work required to maintain my Motor home including State Inspection. ? ? ? ? ?

Did you call the 877-W-HORSE-1 number? If so those guys aren't techs but they are supposed to get you to the closest service center. If you called the TAC I'm sure the "real" techs would have been able to DX your problem and recommend a better solution.

Yes I called 877-946-7731 and spoke to a lady who took all the info and she said she would transfer me to a tech.

Cacti,
If you think you know what the problem might be check before calling the experts for advice...That way your ready to rebutt what your told if you know it could be wrong.. If it can be fixed without special tools your way a head of the game!
Glad to see you made it back without added problems.

Ed/Full-Time, that's a good idea, I should have crawled under the motor home first and then called. If I did that I wouldn't have had to call at all. Sometimes we don't all ways do the smart thing, I'm still learning. Driver I think the tech I spoke to at workhorse was Michael but not 100% sure. I might have his name written down in the motor home, will check when I get home.

Cacti,
Well the reason I say that is we went to a local dealer WH and Winnegago Service center for a Hydro. leak. One in the front pump area.. They fixed that one, but when we returned home we noticed the livingroom slide was leaking from the fitting at the end of the piston. We brought it back and they told us that all the Hydro Hose was dry rotted and leaking. It would have to be replaced from front to back! It was going to cost 800.00 plus parts! I told them no way! When we got back I crawled under and looked at "ALL" the hoses under the MH and Nothing was leaking but the fittings! All the hoses looked New and no craking at all! We called HWH and now have a oppointment with another Service Center that HWH called for us. I even took pictures for HWH and they said the hoses looked very good! See, If I didn't get my butt under there and check it out the service center would have made big $$ off of me for replacing 2 fittings!
Beware not everyone is looking out for your best interest. They're in it to make money!I say let them make it off of others!

Ed, my first thought on your dry rotted hoses was WHAT!, on 3yr old hoses, then I read the rest of your comments, nothing beats a good pair of coveralls.

Driver to answer you question on who I spoke to when I called workhorse it was Alex (female) who took all the information and then was transferred to a tech by the name of Michael.
By the By thanks for the Chassis Guide, I printed it off and am making notes in it. It could come in handy.

I regret the information that you were given from Michael however when I explained your problem to a legitimate "Tech" the problem and resolution was clear.

The problem resolution you pursued was the correct course of action and it's regretful that this happened to you. If you go to a Workhorse Service Center please make a note to have them check the linkage and if it needs the original equipment installed they will take a look at it at that time.

I am glad that you're enjoying your "Chassis Guide". Having this resource on your computer also allows you do do quick searches using the binocular icon inside the Acrobat Reader.
