Good afternoon, I'm looking for some help. I'm new to the RV experience and was hoping someone can help me out. I just got back from a trip to Michigan and experienced the following issues.

1) Rig leans to the left all the time (if you are looking at the front). I looked to see if anything was broke on the suspension and didn't see anything wrong. What could this be? Suggestions on how to fix it? No water and no waste in tanks.

2) The ride is awful. Every little and I mean little, crack or hole rocked the RV bad. This is my first RV so I'm guessing they don't ride like a car but I can't believe it they ride this bad. It was so bad that I'm afraid things were going to break. It's hard to explain just how awful the ride was the entire RV rattled like nothing I've experienced before.

Things to know?
2001 Itasca Sunrise 30W

Tires are in good shape but do have a little dry rot

If you need more info let me know.

Thanks for the help.

First, have your rig weighed at all 4 wheel positions. Here's a link http://www.khulsey.com/rv_info/techt..._weighing.html. Also, there was another post about rig leaning recently, it turned out to be a broken leaf spring (the OP could not see it easily if I remember correctly).

Second, if the tires are over 6 years old replace them. This (and other) forums are full of stories of damage caused by old tires blowing out.

Good luck!

Good info above. Get unit weighed at each corner. Take that info to a good commerical spring shop and they should help you with the lean. From reading this forum you might want to change your shocks to Konis. That should improve your ride, after getting the lean repaired.

Other than a broken spring which was mentioned and the shocks, I had bad bounce with the original shocks. Went with Bilstien. Cured my problem. koni is also rated quite high. Happy motoring. John 03 W22 Tiffing Allegro Bay.

thanks for the replies. I'm going to get the RV weighed and have the suspension inspected by my local shop. While its at the shop I'm going to have new shocks (Koni) and new tires (ouch) installed. I just hope the lean isn't to expensive to fix.

Please don't stop with the suggestions. It's not going to the shop for at least 30 days.

Thanks again,

NK

Once you get it weighed and new tires (yes Ouch!) You'll be able to set the correct tire pressure....using the tire manufacturers charts. When I got mine used from the dealer it had 110psi in all tires and shook me to death! I now run with 80psi and it rides sooo much better.... square bumps will still get you but everything else is much better.

KTMNOEL: All the replies above are good ones, but I'd like to start with the basic question I did not see anyone ask. Which Chassis do you have? Assuming it may be a P-32 chassis, it should have airbags installed inside the front coil springs. "IF" one airbag is inflated higher than the other, that might explain the "lean" you are experiencing.

The harsh ride is most likely caused by tire overinflation for the actual load. Once you get the rig weighed (loaded as you normally travel), then set the pressure according to TIRE manufacturer tables. I would try these remedies and make another trip or two before spending big bucks on tires and shocks. Obviously, replace the tires if they are showing signs of cracking (dry rot), and insist that all 6 new tires be balanced-don't fall for the excuse that the rears don't "need" to be balanced like so many tire shops claim. When you purchase new tires you might want to compare the prices at www.Costco.com. For the Koni shocks you should try www.Shox.com.

I will defiantly contact them. I would rather give my hard earned money to a sponsor of this site them anyone else. Thanks for the suggestion.

Interesting that you say to buy Bilestine shocks. from what I have read on this forum most people say to get Koni shocks. Any reason why? Have you tried Koni?

Thanks,

NK

I have the bil shocks on mine and they work fine. This month motor home mag rates them the best and they cost less. Im sure you will get all kinds of opinion about the shock question. Just my opinion
