Slow down. You are way past the sweet spot on your engine at the speeds you are driving. Try holding your speed below 60 mph. I owned two carbureted 454 in the past, and by using the gears, and conservitive driving habits, almost always got above 8 mpg from them.

I drive with not the max but above the minimum air pressure in all tires. All tires look about new.
I would like to have an overdrive, that is about my only solution and would not be worthwhile unless I were taking that trip out West from SC!


Still not bad with the price of gas around here, $1.66 I got yesterday. Cheaper than a hotel plus I get to carry my family and dog. I would have to buy gas anyway for my truck!
