I decided to really test my Ultrapower upgrade on the way back from western CO to central Texas this year. I left Montrose on CO 50 and drove past Gunnison to Saguache and on to 160, I-25 and finally finished the first day in Raton Pass. I can safely tell you what you probably already know - UP at altitudes is really not much better than the stock 8.1l engine. However, at altitudes under about 7,500' there was really a positive change. Once down under 5,000', there was a significant change and once I entered TX (below 3,500'), I felt like I had a rocket under my butt! I have no idea if there was any change in the mpg as that was never important to me. However, I did seem to take less gas for the trip than normal.

In short, the money I spent for the upgrade was well worth it and I highly recommend it to any who have a gasser W-22 or whatever engine can be upgraded with UP.
