I installed the UP right before we left on our 2009 vacation but didn't get to acquire much information on it's performance befpre the trip. During the trip I didn't notice any improvements in power or gas consumption, but to be honest there are just too many variables to consider, and without accurate data before and after, it's hard to compare the final results.
As I stated before, we were loaded much heavier on this 2009 vacation than our previous trips, and I had to use the dash air during this trip, which I didn't on previous trips.
However, after returning from last weekends camping trip to my Astronomy clubs star party, I did finally see an increase in gas mileage and maybe an increase in power also. Over the same route we take to and from the clubs viewing site I used to average 6.8 MPG, and this trip I averaged 7.2 MPG. I'm not sure about the power, but it did seem like I was able to go over the slight up grades on overpasses with more power and without downshifting out of cruise.

Did you also install new plugs, wires and cold air intake? With all these plus Aero Turbine Mufflers I got about .8mpg increase.

Tom,
None of the above
Hasn't had a tune up since I bought it over 5 years ago.
I've replace the air filter twice.

Ron- quite possible since you've never plugged & wired, that the plugs & wires are original; good PM @ 8 years old.
The cold air intake is a good idea vs the OEM setup for mileage & power; I was near doing that on my P30 before trading it for a diesel. I'd time it for your next air filter change, since you'll get a new filter anyway. I'm not a fan of the K&N type filters as they don't filter nearly as well as a proper paper element (tho they breath easier; you can see the holey difference holding them up to the light), but its not completely critical for a gas rig. IIWM, I'd up the filtration area (square inches of filter media) by double if I could, and use a good grade paper filter.

Mike, The UP S&B filter has a 6 inch conical shape top and fans out to a larger diameter base. The S&B has more surface area than any flat filter that I have seen for our applications. The S&B also features 8 cotton layers thereby offering much better filter media than K&N.

DriVer- that sounds like a good alternative. That's exactly where I was heading w/the P30 before I traded it.
The only down side to the cold air intakes is they usually get placed below the front cowling, so they are low to the ground. You can't follow another rig closely in dusty conditions w/out attending to the rapid buildup of filth in the filter. Think Al-Can Hwy travel here or the like. Otherwise its a great upgrade, and if you keep this in mind it is still a great upgrade with the modified driving habits when req'd.
