Should be mounted on the top of the intake manifold, The relay is approx 3 inches by an inch an half. Some after market ones have different shape. I have also been advised that some had these on the firewall.

You could trace the smaller wire off the starter and locate. May have to use an ohm meter or signal type wire tracer.

Have you tried jumping the wires at solenoid to see if the starter will turn over, Could use a remote starter switch off the wires at solenoid or use a screw driver to jump. Also check all connections.

Follow a flow chart approach to determine the cause best not to jump around.

Also call a dealer who repairs these and ask where the relay maybe and or they make have one for you to look at so it will be easier to locate.

Another thought , when you turn the key to start you claim that that the column gets hot. Is there current flowing to the steering column case?

Some coaches may have a fuse type relay in the fuse block which looks like a cube 3/4 by 3/4 inch. Find out if the starter uses a fuse link. This link looks like a tube 1/4 wide by 3 inches long.

Steering wheel problems!

I have a 1997 Itasca Suncruiser with the 454 Chev. My problem is that at the end of the steering colunm on the left side, there is a cylindrical part with a plugging coming out of it, this lead to the steering colunm via a braided wire. When you put the ignition swtich on to start, the wire in this part comes up. My question his, what is this part and does it have anything to do with starting the engine. The braided wire came out of the steering column and now my unit will not start. have try everything to get going. Have try my Chevrolet dealer, but he does not know what this part is. Any help would be appreciated.

Pictures would help but.... On some cars the actual switch is not where you think it is, the switch is operated by a push/pull cable, like a parking brake cable or a bicycle brake/shifter cable... Could that be the type of cable you have there?
