Well dummy me lost my oil filler cap.

This is for a 2002 Bounder W22 8.1. Any one know a part # and where I can get one. I am heading home to Ohio. I am in w. Terre Haute, In.

Could I drive home with out it? 250 miles.

Thanks

Ron

stuff a rag in the pipe to keep out dirt and bugs. Sorry, but I can't help you with the part number. Any ASC should be able to order one for you. Ed

Ed, I would go to the local auto parts and buy AC Delco part # FC208 or 12573337 or ask for a Oil Filler Cap for an L92 engine.

Dale, How about an L18 or an L29? Would that work!

Probably not as the part number cross over to the L92 per GM/AC Delco.

I also lost my oil filler cap while on a trip. I went to a Chevy dealer and purchased one, part #12574265. I don't remember how much it cost but it wasn't cheap. To prevent this from happening again I drilled a small hole in the top of the cap and screwed in a plastic strap. I then put another plastic strap around the filler pipe and attached both togeather. Now if I forget to put it back on it will still be hanging around.

DC: The standard red cotton shop towel will do....but for the perfectionists out there, the lint free blue surgical towels are available at slightly higher cost!

Cacti: Thanks for the actual part #. I'm assuming it has the tabs that "lock" the cap into the tube. Your tether idea is great for those of us with "completion" issues ! LOL

That's amazing! I lost my cap too and went to Auto Parts and bought a new one for $9. The secret is to get the one with the TWO slots, one on each side, that fits the 8.1 engine. If you feel down inside your oil filler tube you will feel the two bumps that the cap must slide over and then rotate on. Once you get the mental picture of the type of cap you need you will be able to pick it out easily. Be sure you can approximate the diameter of the tube because there are several sizes that have the double slots. One is much bigger but the other was about a half inch bigger.

To really make things really easy.....I suggest you drive the MH to the parts house. That way you'll only need to walk out the door to determine that your mental picture was "blurred".

Also, it will be a short trip back inside to ask for another cap to try...

Thanks for all the advice. I got home today and no problems.

I used an old white dish rag and a wire tie to hold it on. Sorry I didn't use the right rag but it kept the rain out.

Will get one tomorrow and tie it to the filler pipe.

Ron
