Need to change my brake fluid and was wondering if anyone has experience using the Castrol Synthetic GTI LMA brake fluid. I have a 2003 W22 chassis and plan to change the fluid as we are getting ready for a cross country trip in a few week. Castrol claims this fluid exceeds DOT 3 and DOT 4 specs. Thanks for any suggestions!

as long as it is NOT silicon based fluid, like a typical DOT 5, then it should be OK to use. Silicon based fluids will damage the ABS system.
You can also search this forum by entering synthetic brake fluid in the search box to find other threads on the subject.

There is no need to get super exotic with brake fluid. All you need to do is buy the cheapest DOT3 brake fluid from Wal*Mart and keep changing it every 2 years.
PS: All brake fluid is synthetic. I have not yet heard of a brake fluid dinosaur.

i use castrol lma brake fluid exclusively in all my vehicles. it is not ''exotic'', imho just better. it took 9 ea 12 oz cans to change the fluid and bleed all 4 calipers to clear fluid on my moho.

Dan, You are correct. Castrol LMA brake fluid is not exotic.
The recommendation is for DOT3 or DOT4. Fluids meeting those engineering specifications are acceptable and the recommendation to flush the brake fluid every 2 years will assure that even the least expensive fluid will perform well when serviced regularly.
