I have a 2006 Class A Motor Home. It now has 46,000 miles and the tire side walls look good but there is not much tread left. I don't know of any technical way of checking to see how much wear is left. I stick my finger in between the treads and there is not a lot of tread left before I get to the wear mark. Does anyone have any suggestions in the Phoenix Scottsdale Arizona area for new tires. I have Michelin tires size 225/70R19.5 on the RV now. What do you think the going price is for 6 new tires?
Thanks for any suggestions.

On a 2005 chassis with 46K miles you might be right there but I would bet if you had the tires inspected by a Michelin dealer, he might just tell you to keep them for another year.

I would check with Costco and Discount. I used Discount 3 years ago for my Michelin 22.5's because Costco didn't sell them at that time. They do now and they also sell the 19.5's. They also have a rebate on Michelin as they do several times a year, and even if you don't have their $50 membership you might save money with the rebate. You can find prices listed on their websites.
I had to take my 22.5's to a truck center on I10 for mounting and balancing and pay an additional $100, but I would assume Costco and Discount can mount and balance 19.5's since many SUVs now come factory equipped with 20's.

Costco will not mount or dismount 19.5 - 22.5 RV tires. They claim the reason is because of the torque requirements RV's require. Costco's pricing is good, but when you figure you will have to figure out how to carry 6 tires to a another shop that will mount them, and then you need to get your RV there, your not saving any money. A matter of fact it might just cost you more as tire shops want to sell tires. I if you bring your own I bet the mounting and balancing charges will be more then if you bought the tires at that shop.

With manufactured date of June 2002 and 55,000 miles, I had decided to fore go anymore worry time about the remaining life/miles left in my original XRVs. I have been watching the weather check cracks grow ever so slowly for the past 3 years. Remaining tread is still pretty decent for the miles. Best price and availability I could find was at Costco. Out the door was $2092 for 6 which included their $70 off for the 4 tire rebate. Located the nearest tire shop willing to R&R and spin balance all 6 for $50/tire. They said they couldn't come close to Costco's price even if they could locate 6 tires locally. Final total cost was $2392. The truck tire shop didn't care that I bought my own. They weren't all that busy and seemed happy to have the business. Regardless of who put the tires on I still have to drive the coach to a tire shop. If I didn't have access to a small utility trailer, I would have rolled the tires up into the coach and placed them in the hallway and LR with the help of Costco's people.
None of the truck tire shops I contacted locally would commit to a recent manufacturing date or even same batch. Costco's policy was: That I didn't have to accept tires if not satisfied with that issue.
Delivery was less then a week.

I read somewhere that 4/32 tread depth is the time to change out tires

I called Redburn Tires in Mesa, AZ. Kayo is correct at 4/32 it's time to replace tires. I measured my tires, fronts have plenty of tread left but the rear ones are showing 4/32 on outer grooves and 8/32 on inner grooves. I would think I still have some driving time left on them. I have a couple of trips to go on this year probably about 8 to 9 thousand miles. Do you think I would be pushing it with these tires?
Per Jack at Redburn tire he could get me in Michelin 225/70R19.5F out the door for $2339.44, if I went to G tire it would be $2405.40.
He recomended B F Goodrich tires 225/70R195G for out the door $1787.02. He says he sells a lot of B F Goodrich to RV owners.
I welcome responses.

I got a new sale paper from Camper world today and they are advertising the Goodyear 245/70R19.5 G tire including everything but sales tax out the door for 344.99. That is 2070.00 for a set of 6 OEM Tires plus sales tax only. I would run up to Oregon 400 miles where there is no sales tax and buy them there.

Bebop, assuming you live in California, unless you have other reasons for going to Oregon, it would be less expensive to just pay the sales tax on the tires. Eight hundred miles to Oregon and back would be around 100 gallons of gas or about 300 bucks. Sales tax would only be about 175 dollars.
Have you considered brands other than Goodyear?

thanks DC. You are correct however I had planned to go to my 60th class reunion in North West Washington for Aug 6th but with two sets of mountains to cross at 5000 feet and the possibility of brake failure, I have decided at this time to cancel the trip to both there and the FMCA Rally at Redmond, Oregon on the way home. So..........as the motorhome continues to sit in storage waiting for new brakes, the absence does not grow fonder :(
