I was 10 miles back in a dirt road at Moab last week. We were the only ones any where near where we were.
I went to start the MoHo and turned the key, and there was nothing. No click, no nothing! I don't know what I did, except to keep trying to turn the key. Then it just woke up and started like it always does. I probably started it at least a dozen times since and it starts perfect.
However it is still in the back of my mind, that it may do it again. I'm thinking possibly the neutral start switch and would like to know if there is a relatively easy way to bypass it if it does it again. I'd also welcome any other suggestions as to what it might have been.
It's not the battery.

Ten miles of dirt road can loosen up a lot of things. Maybe when you drove back out they tightened up again! Good luck!!

In addition to what Jon said, in my experience my solenoid presented in the same manner before I replaced my starter. To confirm that, you can short out the solenoid post to the positive post on the starter. If it spins you may have found the problem.

That said, I would go with what Jon posted.

Max, if all the above solutions don't seem to work.....well try the old hammer trick to the side of the starter.

Stay off those 10 mile long dirt roads, and the starter will work better!

Do you happen to have a 'tip' on how to get the ignition switch out?

Jon, We go to Moab 2,3 times a year so it's got to be tough. It whines sometimes and says he wishes he had an easy life where his owners just parked him in an RV Park. I just tell him to STFU and appreciate getting to see what few other MH's get to see. And 'Hey Joe' canyon and mine is well worth the drive.

Here I am lost, trying to figure out how to make a U turn here.

but we ended up here.

The MH is lucky or unlucky that it did'nt get to go here

When the MH did'nt start, I thought about going back to the minesite and getting this old car, I found down there, to pull my MH in with. That's Mrs Max and me sitting in it.

I'm going to Taylor Park this summer, across Cottonwood Pass, some 12800' elevation, and dirt on the west side, so I've got to get the MoHo "in shape"

I don't really have any solid tips to give you on how exactly to do the work, but I do know that it is located on the steering column pointing towards the right (passenger) side and the wiring is on the left (drivers) side. The switch kit comes with pretty detailed instructions on what to do, and I would send you a file with the instructions except my scanner is not working right now. I have two switch kits in stock at the moment.

BTW...sweet pictures!!!

Those pics look like they may have been taken on the Moab Rim trail or the Cliff Hanger trail . But if that situation happens again try turning the key on (to unlock the shifter) and putting it in neutral ,then try and start it. That has happened to me twice , and that worked for me. I too am very jealous. That truly is magnificent country out there.

I looked in my spare parts box. It seems like I ordered (what I thought was the ignition switch) and this is what I got from NAPA.

]

Does this look like the ignition switch part I need?
If it is, I have no clue how to get into the steering column

Dieselclacker, Moab in February is a 'best kept secret', if you have a camper, or even the motels are 1/3rd of what they are in Mar., so don't tell anybody. Temps were in the 50's in the daytime and probably went down to 30 at night. Perfect for riding.

Jeepfreak, Most of those pic are the 'Hey Joe' canyon/mine trail, about 8 miles west on 313 and about 10 miles north of DubinskiWell/ 313 intersection. A couple of the pics are the 'Top of the World' trail down by the Dewey Bridge.
I'll try that trick if it does it again but it was kinda scary when and where it did it. Hope it was just another strange WH electrical glitch.

Yup, that's the ignition switch. It should be on top of the column, connected to the key via a 6" or so long rod.
