Please note the new additions in regard to brake fluid. We see guidance that instructs us to change our brake fluid every 2 years. I think this is a good thing!

The Brake Fluid Change recommendations are located on Page 40 of the 2009 Chassis Guide.

Experts will advise that flushing brake fluid annually is really the way to go however if you do this every 2 years without fail you will be able to preserve the new functionality of your hydraulic brake system throughout its life time of service.

Normal wear and tear is going to present however do not allow the brake fluid to be the catalyst that accelerates mandatory brake service.

Absent from the chassis guide is a requirement to lube pins and sliders which I expect should be done at the minimum every 3 years or sooner. Service techs have shared with me that when they tear down a set of brakes they typically do not see seized pins and sliders due to lack of lubrication.

Looks like Workhorse is going through a learning curve. They have found that it is not the guide pins that are causing brake problems but rather the moisture in the brake fluid along with the phenolic pistons. Who knows, after they change over to Stainless Steel pistons they may extend the fluid change to more than 2 years.

If you look at the recent brake fluid change post I put up here I would say change it at minimum every 2 years but if you can find you way to do so, change it every 18 months to a year if you can. Brake fluid is cheap.

This looks like a good tool, but that will do the M/C. What about getting it to the Calipers? Going to be like I did for a living, bleed them? thanks for the info, bill

I'm so sorry but could you extend your remarks out a little bit more. I'm having a bit of a hard time figuring out what the question is. I'd like to help if I can.

I'm sorry, I guess I was up to late. Must have got my blogs mixed up. Someone posted a tool to suck all the brake fluid out of the M/C and replace it. I was wondering if they then bleed the entire system? bill

burgiebill, Well I sucked out all the fluid out of the M/C using a vacuum pump. A little more than 1 liter. Once empty, I refilled the master cylinder tank and then began the flush proceedure with the right rear brake, and moved to the LR, RF, and then LF.

If you can give me the first 11 characters of your VIN# I can tell you exactly what you have.
