Just wanted to let everyone know that Workhorse, after 3 months, has flat out refused to reimburse me for the cost of the brake repairs that were necessary to put my motorhome back in safe operating condition. If you remember, I had all four brake rotors crack all the way through after only 39K miles and no brake abuse (yes, I lubed the calper pins as required and changed the brake fluid also). Don't think I will be looking at a Workhorse chassis for our next motorhome and I will tell everyone I know about Workhorse brake problems and the way I was treated.

Were you still under warranty at the time of repair? If you were then they should have taken care of it. If not..then what should compel WH to pay for this repair?

Rickandcheryl, I feel the same way about Workhorse. My dealings with them has been mostly negative. I called them up a month after my warranty expired to report a broken spring clip. When I gave my VIN she couldn't find where I had ever own a Workhorse chassis but that I did have recall open on the ABS light. Huh, how could I have never own a Workhorse but have a recall open. This summer my LCD panel was hard to read & being that recall is open that will probably save me from paying for the fix. BUT, it has been sitting for 2 weeks waiting for the fix! The repair center is 85 miles from me! "Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you!"

R&C,
If I am following your logic, your 1 year warranty should automatically be extended to 3 years plus, because you had a brake failure. What is your GVWR, GCWR and your total weight including toad if applicable? Maybe operating the MH near, at, or over its weight limit caused the problem. Also, everyone always complains about the cost of new MH's. A majority of the yearly price increase is in direct relation to the amount of warranty repairs performed on the previous model year. So to stay reasonably priced in a down market you will be seeing warranties across the board (car, boat, mh, etc.)being strictly enforced by the manufacturers. No goodwill, nothing after the stated warranty has expired. The warranty repairs are not free and they must remain profitable to stay in business. So if you are going to boycott Workhorse be prepared to boycott everyone else because the days of the indefinite warranty to the complainers is closed.

Randy </div></BLOCKQUOTE> Not always true. I just had something repaired by winn and another item replaced after 4 years and I didnt ask or expect it to happen. So that 500- 1000.00 dollor repair just made winn 100,000 to 200,000.00 because I now wouldnt buy anything other than a winn. safe travels

Jdsr,
Compare your response to the original post. You asked for and expected nothing. But, mark my words, The goodwill well has or soon will dry up.

Dave: ALL manufacturers records are vehicle specific, regardless of "ownership". The recall would be for the chassis VIN #, which may not be registered to you unless you are the original owner AND the selling dealer notified them of your correct info. ED

To all, my coach had a 3 year, 36K warranty (not 1 year), it is NOT over weight, the toad is a Acura TL, (3200 lbs and ALWAYS use a Brake Buddy), GCWR is under the limit, and I know how to properly use the brakes. Time should not be a factor here as the rotors are not going to crack sitting in my drive way. I contend that there are serious defects in the Workhorse brake system and they need to address them before they get someone killed. I have done all required maintenance on my coach and to have to replace all four rotors and calipers at just 3K miles past warranty is crazy. There is something seriously wrong here. I feel Workhorse should at least pay for the rotors, calipers and labor to replace them.

My first thoughts were also "is your waranty still in effect"? However, the more I think about it, and read what rickandcheryl has to say, the more it seems like something is wrong with the OEM rotors. I have heard of heat cracking of rotors however, such cracks are not cracked 100% thru, they are just surface cracks. It does sound like poor materials or heat treating are the issue and if Workhorse wants repeat business they need to address this issue as well as other issues with the disk brake system. I read lots of information from the other mfgs fourms and only Workhorse seems to be having brake issues.

Having said all of that I have 30,000 miles on my W22 and have no brake problems (yes I do inspect and maintain the brake system).

What could be different between your brakes, mine and someone else's that are having problems? I think that's the question that needs answering AND we are not alone. There are many of us with no problems, high mileage and longevity.

Tomorrow we depart for Canada across the Thousand Island Bridge up to the Ottawa River town of Alfred, OT.
