Heard a rumor that GM is to discontinue producing the 8.1 engines. Has anyone else heard this?

HERE is an old thread discussing this. I'm sure there are quite a few others.

Thanks for the link Rusty!

Workhorse is promoting their front engine chassis which use the ITE MaxxForce 5 & 7 series of engines. There may be a good reason as to why front diesels are on the radar screen at Workhorse. I would not be too surprised if 8.1L engine availability fuels front diesel technology now and going forward.

If anyone wants an 8.1L engine, I'd say get yours now because I surely don't know how many are in the pipeline at this moment. GM is no longer making 8.1L engines.

It's too bad the 8.1 is going away, I'm going to put a lot more happy miles on our's. It's been and continues to be a great engine for our size motorhome.

Grated, there are a LOT of 8.1 engines out there and I am sure the parts supply will last a long time, it would be interesting to see how the diesels run. Unfortunately, I am sure there will never be a 8.1 to Maxxforce conversion. If one did come out, I bet it would be prohibitively expensive. Personally, I kind of wish there would have been an option when I bought my coach. I would have sprung the extra $$ for the diesel. Oh well.

There are more 8.1L engines in service in light duty and MDT trucks applications that were ever in motorhome chassis and I expect that parts will be available for many years.
