I have a situation with my workhorse which has become a nightmare. This has been going on for about three months now and it doesn't look like a workhorse dealer can solve the problem. I have been to four workhorse dealers and one Banks dealer and am no closer to a fix than when I started. We are currently parked at a workhorse dealer and he has had the coach for a week.

The first event in this saga was an O2 sensor code driver side. Installed a new sensor and drove about 500 miles and had anothercheck engine light. This time it was on the passenger side. Replaced that O2 sensor, drove about 200 miles and both sensors turned on the engine light. Went to a Banks dealer and removed the Banks program from the ECM. Made about 80 miles befor both sensors threw a code. Reflashed the ECM to default and made about 100 miles before both sensors came on again. As a side note, I replaced the fuel pump about a year ago. Tried to contact Workhorse but no luck.

When the check engine light comes on I have trouble pulling even a slight grade due to a lean burn and a backfire through the air box. If the grade is 6% the coach drops to ten mph and then it will drop into first gear and take off like a scalded cat, transmission will shift to second with a lean backfire and will climb at about 30 to 35 mph in second gear. When the coach sits overnight with a code it will start and run a short distance without a lean burn.

Would apreciate any help..

We can send you a data recorder to analyze the engine sensors and then review the data for you...PM or email if you'd like the details and to set something up jon@brazelsrv.com

Sounds just like the same problem I have been dealing with on my 03 W22 for a couple of years now and have also been to numerous workhorse centers without resolution. The only difference is I had the Ultra Power programmed @ RTS rather than Banks.

Story with a happy ending... Bless this forum and Jon Brazel , Jon sent me the recorder and I went to retrive my motorhome from the dealer( it had been there for over a week), installed the recorder and drove home, down loaded the info to Jon via E and presto Jon found the MAF sensor was bad.. Jon sent a new one and and one hour after I recived it had the motorhome up and running, one hour after that left home for a rally in New Mexico, drove 1300 miles with us singing we have our old coach back.. Climbed many steep grades with ease.. I don't how many more Workhorse dealers I would have had to go to before the problem would have been solved.

Glad to hear you're back on the road again. I'm going to call Brazels and hope to have the same results.

Gary, I agree 100% with what you said about Brazel's and this forum. They offer a whole lot of support and information. Two years ago during a trip to Alaska my engine started acting up, loosing power, displayed a check engine light and displayed a code. After limping to Tok, AK I called Brazel's and they guided me through a process to check the problem. This was before I had a Scan Gauge II so I had a local mechanic help out.

Brazlel's said it was the MAF and could get one to me from the shop in Washington. My mechanic got one quicker from Anchorage. It was water ingestion into the stock air filter that caused the problem. When I got home, I removed the stock filter and tuba and installed the Ultra CAI from Brazel's. Problem solved.
