I ordered mine directly from www.scanguage.com. And since they are only 30 miles from me in Tempe, AZ it was here the next day for $169.
I've placed mine temporarily on the steering column resting against the dash and held by the cord. I wanted it to be easily removeable to use in my cars.

Hi Mike

Thanks for the info. I guess I didn't dig deep enough. I did find it now, although the price in the catalog is a bit higher than your post said. As I'm not planning on ordering it until after the first of the year, I'll check with you then to see how much it is.

Thanks Again

Jack

Wondering if you fellows that are using the Auto Tap also buy the GM software upgrade for your 8.1 equipped vehicles? Also since I'm a computer dummy, how hard is it to hook up and learn how to use?

Gary N,
Yes I did purchase the GM software upgrade.
Its simple to hook up. Comes with cable interface that plugs right into the OBD2 port to the left of steering column under the dash. Other end is a USB connection to the laptop.
Load the software and run it. Ignition on or run the engine and see the parameters being monitored.

Just tinker with the program to learn how to use it. Save your configuration when done and use it later on or make a new one to do different task and save.

Setup your personalized virtual dashboard using the gage formats provided and the selected parameters you want to monitor. Such as water temperature, etc. Whatever is listed and responding can be put into a gage format. Does much more than what I use it for.

Would you list the parameters the ScanTool can do that your W22 dash can not??

The following are the gauge functions and the trip computer functions.
The IP can display some of them, but they are much harder for me to see than on the Scangauge.

Gauge Functions:
>>Fuel Economy
Fuel Rate
Battery Voltage
Coolant Temperature
Intake Air Temperature
Engine Speed (RPM)
Vehicle speed (MPH)
Manifold Pressure
(not available on some vehicles)
Engine Load
Throttle Position
Ignition Timing
Open/Closed Loop

Trip Computer Functions:
Maximum Speed
Average Speed
Maximum Coolant Temperature
Maximum RPM
Driving Time
Driving Distance
Fuel Used
Trip Fuel Economy
Distance to Empty
Time to Empty
Fuel to Empty

Tom,
The interface cable is about 9 1/2 feet long and does reach over to pass side position. However, the OBD2 end of the cable has a card enclosed in a plastic termination box that may interfere with dash trim, steering column or your left knee depending on your coach config. I purchased their Chrysler OBD2 adapter extension(their item # OBDIIMF) to allow that box affair to be out of the way.

I keep my laptop under the dash on top of dog house cover and use an overhead 15 inch LCD monitor and wire less mouse and key board.

This year I will change computers and use a MACMINI with BootCamp to run all my windows stuff and stow the Mac out of sight.

Gary N;

Did you buy the Advanced Parameters software?? If so was it $249 in additional to the $199 for the hardware and generic parameter software??

I haven't bought anything yet Tom. I'm still doing my homework. Just got a GPS for my lap top, so I've been playing with that right now.

The way I read it, you buy the auto tap for $199, then you buy software for what ever vehicle you want to use it in. I our case the GM package which is $99. I guess for $249 you get all 3 software packages.

I want the advanced parameters but I'm not willing to pay $199 + $249 for that.

I'm going to call AutoTap this week.
