The top link (PDF) is fairly large so when you click on it, expect it to take at least 20 to 30 seconds to download and view the document. If your connection is a little slower it could take up to 1 minute. √

I'm not sure what's up with that but in the list of documents you can see where there's a number of "Requests for Confidential Treatment."
One of the pages that I thought may be blacked out was the SS piston study. Perhaps I missed it but I remember that I saw it in a previous document that the SS pistons had no movement vertically in comparison to phenolic formulations. I did previously download all those documents a few months ago and I'll see if that's the case.
Note that there are a number of these documents listed.
OCC 12/23/2009 LETTER TO BOSCH GRANT CONFIDENTIAL TREATMENT TO BOSCH 8/19/2009 LETTER TO OCC

The documents I down loaded in February 2010 appear the same as what is seen on the NHTSA site today.

I can understand the confidentiality issue and really have no problem with it. I appreciate the info anyway.
I find the data interesting and defining. I see how the problem can exist.
Thanks Mike.

Personally, I find that it helps me get a handle on what the problem is and how the resolution will be applied to finally resolve the deficiency in the bore and phenolic formulation once and for all.
NHTSA is showing us all exactly where the point of failure is and what ultimately caused the problem. The resolution to this issue has been conveyed to me as;
"The new caliper looks just like a new (old) caliper … there will be NO noticeable difference ... just a date change.
Engineering wise …
The new caliper has a larger piston bore … A few thousands of an inch, and new material composition for the pistons, that’s it in a nut shell!"
