Odometer is not registering, but everything else works including the speedo....
The odometer is analog or mechanical..and looks just like the older ones that have a cable, except that it DOES NOT..
It will sometimes go forward a tenth or two and maybe go backwards about the same, but mostly does nothing...like maybe it has a stripped gear or something...
So, the question is...does this sound like a dash panel problem...a wiring problem...or is there a sensor somewhere on the tranny that needs looked at?...I would really like to know where and what the sensor might look like....to eliminate that possibility...

As you said the display is mechanical, but is driven by an electronic circuit and in that year as I recall, a stepper motor.
It's pretty unusual for the mechanical part to fail but still possible.
It's much more likely to be a problem with the circuitry.
The same sensor that supplies the speedometer signal also supplies the odometer so it's not the sensor if the speedometer works properly.
I suspect the best thing to do is to take it out and see if you can get it repaired or replaced.
There might be a GM approved repair shop out there somewhere.

Clay L...
Thanks for that bit of information....I have found a repair facility, but didn't want to get too hasty about sending the dash panel off...and then finding out that the problem was elsewhere....
So, if I understand you correctly...you're saying that the signal only enters the motherboard on the back of the dash panel unit one time and there is not a second entry with another wire...that could possibily be coming from that same sensor...being disconnected, loose, or severed....

I believe that there is only one wire from the sensor.
I think the sensor may connect to the engine computer and there may be a wire from the engine computer to the instrument panel/speedo/odo circuit, but I am not sure about the exact path.

OK....so unless I find out something different...I might as well send the dash panel off for repair and hope that they're successful...
