Any suggestions where to look for what controls the reading? Nothing has changed since purchase and when taking it in to get the refrigerator cooling unit replaced I recorded almost twice the actual miles traveled on the clock between the house and repair center.

Any chance it has the option to display kilometers and it accidently got switched?

Wouldn't be twice the miles, but definitely much faster reading.

Sounds like the guitar man above has it right. One kilometer is roughly .6 of a mile. I would also bet you are reading kilos and not miles on your speedometer as well. You can change it by going to the menu button on your instrument cluster.

The K option was the only thing I could think of to check and it was and still is set to miles. thank you for the thought, my mind is zeroing in on a computer problem but I don't know enough about the chassis to try and place blame.

I know this is really far-fetched, but since you've checked and the unit is telling you it's set to miles...
Is it possible that the program is backwards?
That is, could the "miles" setting be measuring kilometers, and vice versa?
Setting it to "kilometers" just to see what happens could be worth a try.

I'm remembering all that space telescope "Hubble Trouble" with standard and metric measurements getting mixed up and causing no end of problems...

Just a thought!

Might try switching it to kilometers an drive 6 mile markers and see if it registers 10 km. It may help deciding weather its info the computer is putting out that is bad or info the computer is receiving is bad. Just trying to guess at the problem.

Look at the good side of all situations, when you gas up, you'll be getting 14 or 16 MPG
Just kiddin with ya, Hope you get it figured out and let us know what it was. Workhorse and Actia have no shortage of electrical glitches.

If it is a VDO speedometer, you can change and check the settings yourself. Search on VDO speedometers and it will tell you how to do the programming yourself...

It evidently started on my last trip east I noticed that my MPG did in fact go up about 3-4 miles per gallon even with towing a 4400lb toad for the first time on a real trip.

I'll have to look at what model speedometer it is when I get it back from the service center.

Is your speedometer off as well? Check with GPS.

I di'scovered on our recent Canyon trip that our odometer was off approx 3 miles per 100 miles driven. I had replaced our Goodyears with Hankook AH11's so I don't know if that made a difference or not. This is not as dramatic as yours however.

Since the GPS has always been available I unintentionally always check it and for all practical purposes the speedo and GPS always seem to read the same.

You can try a cluster diagnostic on it. Hold the Mode button down for 10-15 seconds until the screen changes to your cluster options, one of the options will be cluster diagnostics.

It would almost have to be a problem with the cluster if it truely is off because the odometer gets it's signal from the vehicle speed sensors and if your speedometer is correct there really is no way for the odometer to be off.
