As a full timer, I need to schedule service apointments way ahead of time. When I called Mainline Truck in Cleveland for an apointment for the recall, he filled me in with what is going on, namely that they wiill check my system and replace any rotor etc. with "current products" but when the "official recall" letter finally comes out, he is of the underatanding that all the brake rotors, etc. will be replaced with a new style of rotor, and related parts.
Anyone have a clue when this "official" recall letter is going to come out?

4 new calipers will be installed free of charge on every coach included in the campaign...if resultant damage is found from the faulty calipers then other parts will be replaced on a case by case basis at no cost.

Do you suppose they will offer a discount on new pads, seals, and a fluid flush when replacing the calipers?

I would assume that no discount on the parts but since they have them apart anyways, the labor should be covered...

The Techs here at Tom Johnson Cmpg Ctr (Marion NC) say that the calipers (that are bad actors) must "ash" before they will be replaced. I think they are misinformed. Further, I do not know the definition of "ash", tho I presume they mean some sort of covering or deterioration as a result of overheating. It was a casual conversation while I was in for another problem, so I did not pursue the issue. So I believe Jon and DriVer are correct (as usual).
The reason I mention this, is a heads-up for anyone who may come here for the recall in the fall. Further, I suspect TJCC (and others) will receive detailed guidance from WH as the recall develops more technical definition. BTW, I've been treated VERY well at TJCC.

"if resultant damage is found from the faulty calipers then other parts will be replaced on a case by case basis at no cost."
If brake pads are replaced, should the rotor be turned too? At least to break the glaze.

Steamerman, I would have expected that they would have turned the rotor if they installed new brake pads. That just makes sense. If you get new shoes or pads on your car they'll resurface the drums or disk. A car has thin disks so if those go bad they usually need to be replaced. On the Workhorse disk there's a little wiggle room there I understand so getting them machined isn't a bad thing.
Personally had they told me they were going to replace the pads I would have insisted they turn or replace the rotors even if I had to go out of pocket.
"NOW" that said Thudman is going to have to have all this work done again in a few months SO at that time I would hope that everyone knows that unless their pads are damaged they won't be covered. If it were me having the work done, (which it will) I would get the best brake job I could when they change the old calipers. I'd get new pads and have the rotors replaced or machined and make sure the fluid is flushed. I expect that we will be going out of pocket to get everything changed if that's what should be done according to recommendation of the dealer.
Do it right the first time would be what I would recommend. At least at this point the labor is going to cost a whole lot less than to have it done again next year or in a couple of years. It ain't worth the wait.

I agree,
I plan on coming out of this with a complete brake overhaul even if some is out of pocket. lets get it right this time, there is too much at stake.

That's my plan too. It makes no sense to me to have the brakes torn down and not turn the rotors and put on new pads.
