My WH Recall work was done last spring but I had quite a chore getting WH to reimburse me for prior parts replaced and a WH certified shop inspection that charged for the check-out and told me I was "good to go" after I told them I had repeated lock-up problems every time I was out with the MH - less than 200 mi later I was on the side of the road w/ brakes locked again. WH reluctantly agreed to tow me in and do the replacement prior to the final fix. After supplying all the back-up info, situations, mileage, etc and getting refused 3 times I went back to NHTSA to report WH not living up to their stated responsibilities. After supplying NHTSA with the details I had a call from WH 2 days later offering to settle for essentially 100% of what I was requesting...which included pads & rotors as mine were low mileage when I had the first lock-up. They also reimbursed for the shop inspection that came to the wrong conclusion. The person at NHTSA I delt with moved on to a new position but he recommended - Ms Jennifer Timian (Jennifer.Timian@dot.gov) will be able to direct any recall reimbursement related concerns Workhorse owners may experience. -
NHTSA-DOT 1200 New Jersey Avenue, SE Washington, DC 20590

Hope this helps - persistence paid off in my case.

What was the timeline of your service and was it rendered after the release of the Interim Notice?

Subsequent to the release of the Interim Notice on or about November 16, 2007, I would expect that you would be eligible for reimbursement if you went out of pocket to restore your brakes.

Every posted topic here from Workhorse in regard to the Bosch Brake Caliper recall advises all owners to contact the NHTSA in the event that you are not satisfied with how the process is going.

Your success in recovering the expenses you incurred appears to fall within the scope of the Interim Notice. Like everything else in life, unless you assume a more proactive role in pursuing your rights, these things often don't drop out of the sky into your lap.

It is reassuring to know that NHTSA is on the ball with this recall and is taking care of business.

My initial incident was Mar '09. While the EA07016 investigation was opened Nov 2007 WH did not notify owners at that time. The investigation was only closed Aug 2009 and owners were notified after that. It took until Oct 2010 to finally resolve the reimbursement with the assistance of NHTSA.

The attached text published by Workhorse serves as a directive to all as to where to seek resolution in the event that a brake failure/expense/other becomes a problem for the owner of a vehicle. NHTSA is tasked to help you resolve this issue and this notice was presented to all owners by the company. The process worked as expected and I am glad that you were made whole.

Can anyone tell me when this recall came out? I have never goten a notice that I know of. Was it several recalls over a period of time? How can I tell if the recall applies to my rig.Since buying the 2003 Thor Hurricane/Workhorse I remember only one recall way back about 2005? Can't remember what it was for. I have 17000 mi. Only issue with brakes have to do with the brake pedal not returning all the way to the top (last 1/2 -3/4 in ) which makes the brake lights stay on. I found the plastic brakelight switch under the steering column was very loose. I tightened it up and placed a 1/4 in rubber spacer on the brakelight actuator. Lights don't stay on anymore. Brakes work quite well as three deer can attest to since I almost ran over them a week ago in the dark. Coach stopped and all was well...
Sorry for the multy question post...thanks in advance fo any input...Gary

Ok...newbe here, so don't yell at me for double posting
I went to workhorse.com and registered with my vin and they daid there are no open campains associated with my 2003 Hurricane. They did replace my dash gauges and some other electrical item back in 06. I'll make sure and do my homework before posting lame questions in the future

Gary if you have the W-24 chassis the recall is not necessary, but if its a W-22 chassis it is on a recall.
I would call Workhorse with Vin number to notify if its the W-22.

No such thing as a lame question when you don't know something.

Roger: you're correct, the W-24 chassis is NOT being part of the recall.

That is also true of the UFO (R-26) and also the P32, which I'm thinking is why Gary's was not recalled.

Thanks for the input....Apparently I have a P32 chassis. The only way I can tell is by comparing the cruise control/turn signal switch photo in my Workhorse manual. The W22 photo is very different from what I have. I cant find a single chassis ID on any of my sales docs or chassis vin stickers. Any way thanks and I'm glad I don't have to worry about any recall repair, when we are leaving for the coast tomorrow, to begin our FULLTIME ADVENTURE....

Happy trails Y'all

If you check your vehicle's registration papers your VIN# should start off with 5B4LP5. Those letters and numbers will indicate that you have a P series motorhome.

The only vehicles involved in the recall will have a "6" in the 6th digit place from left to right in the VIN#.
