Oh that smell....

Pretty sure the smell I am experiencing when driving our new to us 2010 Siena W22 (with some windows open) is coming from the exhaust. Don't think it is a black tank issue. But a rotten egg smell sounds like a converter. Didn't smell anything at all driving back from Mesa when I picked up the coach. Just started a few days ago. Thanks...

You are probably right. The other place you might have a rotten egg smell is from the water heater. Sulphur build-up in the tank can cause that to happen. You would smell it when you run hot water so that is probably not the case this time.
If it were the case, cleaning and flushing the hot water tank with vinegar would take care of the problem. I wouldn't try that with the catalytic converter though...

A converter will not smell like rotten eggs....but batteries being charged will, can and often do.

Oh that smell....

Your batteries are probably up front. Bet they are cooking. The odor comes right at you

I would bet it's a grey tank issue. It's coming from your sink when you open your window in creates negative pressure in the cabin and pulls through the sinks or toilet if it can.

I would check your batteries first that would be the quickest. Then check that your tank vents aren't plugged up. Then address the hot water heater.

Good luck and Happy Trails!!

Ditto. The smell from a rank grey water tank will be hard to tolerate.

If you have a washing machine, check that as well. If the water dries out in the trap from non-use, it could be the source of the smell.

Thanks for the replies. Batteries (newer AGM's) are mid coach. Don't smell anything at all when parked and didn't on the long drive from AZ to Socal. Smell is definitely rotten eggs and quite intense from the drivers seat. Will try a short drive with windows closed and see if smell is diminished.

Make sure the roof vents are closed tight too - they can cause a mild vacuum.

Drove just a few miles from the beach to the RV resort and in that short of time, the smell was intense. Gray tank was pretty full from 5 days at the beach, but still.....pretty nasty smell. Have drained the tanks and will see if it goes away.

5 days on the beach? Gray water tank smell I think. Gray water smells WAY worse than black water.

X3 on the grey water tank. Best fix, before you leave, run some water in all your drains to ensure the traps are full. Another possibility is, don't know if you have a washer and dryer, but even if you don't, you're probably plumbed for it. I had the same BAD smell in my MH, nose led me to the source. Winnebago Adventurer, 2007. I found a cap on the piping that was loose that I could reach, gave it a twist, no more smell.
