I have a Class A 2010 Fleetwood Terra on a workhorse chassis 22w. Just got the oil changed for the second time (at 5600 miles on the odometer) the problem I have is that it barely fits in the bay where I have the oil changed requiring me to remove the Mirrors to get it in. The first time I had it changed I used regular oil 5W 30 this time the guy who I know seeing the trouble we had getting the RV into the bay recommended I go to full synthetic oil. I have been changing the oil every 3,000 miles and he felt I could go 4,500 miles between changes using full synthetic. Financially it is cheaper to use the synthetic and change every 4,500 miles plus it is a more convenient. What does everyone think?

Really, most oil changes are unnecessary so frequently. Even with conventional oil 3000 mi is too soon. You are just wasting money.

If it was me I would use synthetic oil and go 7500 mi between changes or once a year if you dont drive that much.

Oils today are so far superior to the oil of even 10 years ago. But many guys still persist on the 3000 mi interval.

As long as you are still under the 3 year 36,000 mile Workhorse Warranty, I would recommend you stick with the service interval THEY recommend. I believe THEY still recommend 5W30 conventional oil every 3 mo or 3,000 miles, WECF. "IF" you had a problem, I'd hate to see you involved in a dispute over "if" you had followed their recommendations. Using a high quality synthetic oil does not change their recommended service interval, AFAIK, and it won't affect your warranty either. My advice is to consult the owner's manual, and heed it's advice...not the opinions expressed by guy changing your oil who has no "skin" in the game! Ed

Actually, I believe that the 2010 chassis has a 5 year 100,000 mile Workhorse Warranty, and I would agree to stick to the Owner's manual directive's using dino or 100% Synthetic Oil. Edouard.

To the best of my knowledge the new vehicle warranty on the 2010 WCC is 3 years or 36,000 miles. What you are quoting is GM's automotive warranty which does not follow through to WCC. WCC did have an extended powertrain warranty I believe in 2006 or 2007 and it reverted back to the 3/36 right after that. I had brochures that were obsolete due to the extended warranty change which I discarded.

I regard to oil change interval; 5,000 miles on synthetic is not unreasonable. I change my oil twice a year. 93,200 miles and working.

Oh that ever constant thought rings sooooooo clear here: READ AND FOLLOW THE OWNERS MANUAL. To not do that will result in headaches and a sore behind.

Be safe, enjoy the open road and Thank a Veteran for our freedoms !

Removing the mirrors is easier than changing your own oil or finding another shop equipped to do so? If you were my customer I would tell you to leave the mirrors on and change the oil using a creeper. I generally change my own oil using a small plastic tarp under the drain pan so no oil is on the ground.

Sorry, I did not realize that WCC reverted back to 3yr/36. Our 07 rig is covered till 11/2012 and although I use only Mobil 1 synthetic I continue to change out the oil about every 3M miles. Thanks.
